It was quick, thank God.

She passed at about 1:00 this morning. I am sooooo grateful, relieved...and I am going to miss her. Like a wall you could always lean on, or the coat that always kept you warm. I understand Conway Twitty is going to be played at her funeral. Ghad help me.

If you want to do anything for me? If you smoke, quit. If you're trying to quit, keep trying.

Yeah, she died of just plain borked lungs - stroke, heart attack and diabetes nothwithstanding.

The emphysema and asthma came first, and I never knew her when it wasn't there.

If you don't have anything to do with smoking, I could use a hug.

Going over to Sis' to make dinner (and I'll put something in the fridge for tomorrow too).

Ah, life.

Life, indeed.

My best to you.

I second the call to all to not smoke.

Only eight months ago, a friend/old boss died of lung cancer, a fellow less than a year older than myself and father of two still-growing kids.

For the past sixteen years, thereabouts, my ex-wife's mother has been barely functioning because of emphysema. Now, she can barely lift a finger.

So very sorry for your loss. Good thoughts on the way.

We're still on the quit--and you know, something tells me that thinking of you is going to make it just a little easier.

Thank you for that.

What I have to do with smoking is that I don't.

Many *hugs*. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I /was/ an occasional/social smoker (less than a pack a week) until my daughter caught me at it when she was three by barging into my studio to talk to me about some offense of her father's (like telling her it was bedtime). She demanded that I stop smoking and I haven't smoked since, about 10 years now. COPD and other diseases scare the crap out of me, too. :(

Non-smoker here. We persuaded my MIL to quit by forbidding her to subject her granddaughter (who is now 21) to second-hand smoke. We still lost her about 8 years ago.

I'm a non-smoker. Mike quit smoking the day I got pregnant with ms. Kaitlyn.

My father died of heart failure, due to complications with emphysemia and diabetes. He smoked, drank and did drugs - probably his entire life. (i mean that rather literally, sadly enough)

All the best wishes from my family to yours....

(HUGS).

Never smoked. Both of my parents did, and although they quit both died from it. (It actually lists smoking as a cause on my dad's death certificate - he'd quit for many years but had asthma even before he quit).

I fear Alan taking up smoking more than drugs. Really.

I'm sorry for your loss, but from the way it sounds, I'm glad she's not suffering anymore. I'm glad it was quick, and I wish you and yours a speedy recovery.

I quit smoking in June of last year, so it's been more than six months now. You were a major inspiration for it, even though I never really said much about it to you. Thanks.

I could add a few more things on the list:

If you have asthma, MAKE SURE it is properly looked after.

*HUGS* (You know me... the closest I get to smoking is when I can see my breath on cold nights. *wry*)

My condolences over all.

Let me know of any plans for tomorrow.

C.

Never smoked, and never will. My parents scared me away from it at a rather tender age (my father smoked for years, but finally quit in the mid 80s).

Our condolences.

Going into my 4th year without a cigarette, after nearly 40 years of smoking. I am so very glad I quit. I am starting to get to where I actually breathe again.

I've known a numbe rof people who died of smoking-related diseases, ncluding some odd ones a lot of people aren't aware of.
My dad died of smoking-related cancer of the esophageal tube, for instance.
I'd suggested that anybody who's trying to quit, keep fighting.
And discourage the kids from doing it. I see a lot of smokes with kids in high school, it's so enraging and stupid.
Sometimes at work I mention it might be wise divesting from RJR and other cancer-supported stocks, and letting stockbrokers know why.

I had two parents who chain smoked most of my life, so I had all the exciting health condcerns of being a heavy smoker as a child--asthma being the main one.

I remember getting yelled at for trying to open a window in the car while my parents were smoking, because it was cold out. "hot boxing" tobacco with my folks--YAY!

My reasons for not smoking were pretty silly--I was a nerd, and could spend my allowance on smokes or on comics and movies. Thank god for comics.

Hmm, 279 weeks (does math) - five and a half years, right? I've heard that by seven years after quitting, the body has regenerated all its cells, and it's like you never smoked. May it be so for you.

Smoke-free *hugs* to you, and to [livejournal.com profile] kyburg.
