The adoption boards are all a-chatter about it this morning - the Chinese Adoption Authority updated their site, and in the last 23 days - they've managed to get through 7 days of LIDs.

Doing the math, our wait could be as long as three years from LID, which we haven't got official confirmation of yet. (Should be the first couple of weeks of February. It's June. Still don't know. Grr.)

No, I don't need drugs. Of any kind. And chocolate is not going to make me feel better.

I'm doing what I always do. I get in motion.

I'm going to get the second adoption started. With my luck, that program will also begin to slow to the point where we could get both referrals at the same time - I'm willing to risk it.

My preference is Taiwan, but I'll go to Vietnam at this point - I want my family, I want us to find each other and begin this journey, however it's going to come about.

In the meantime, I'm going to start looking for money. I've had it.

Guess we'd better start our adoption process soon. We're going to adopt from India though. Have you considered India? Just curious.

You can do international adoptions from India - if you're already an Indian native (they call it inter-country adoption), living abroad.

For us - not a chance. I checked.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about this delay. As depressing as my own wait was, this would be so much worse. Good luck on finding another country.

I just keep wondering if there is something very basically wrong with my decision making process - every time I think I've made a reasoned, rational, intelligent decision - this happens. I spent two years with DCFS for nothing - and it looks very likely I'll spend just as much time or more...here...and?

No, no, please don't beat yourself up over this. In all probability you did everything just right, they just changed the rules on you mid-stream. It happens, and it sounds like you've got an extreme case of it here. I remember when we finally got our paperwork done (after years of dithering and false starts) it was because the CCAA had changed the rules again and agencies were trying to get families in line to be sure that they had access to children for the next year.

I think that it's a wise decision to look into other places at this point, but the expense!

We're thinking good thoughts for you as you go through this.

Is there an age limit with Vietnam or Taiwan, or health limits (such that diabetics, for instance, would be excluded)?

Good luck.

Most of the same health restrictions apply, no matter where you go - as far as age limit, I *think* Vietnam is a bit more lenient, but not that much. I'd check with Heartsent myself, if I were you.

For us, we'd already decided the second adoption would be somewhere else, Taiwan being the first choice.
