I have a wonderful FL - chipuni has more on the story.

I come from a long line of very distantly related to Catholicism Protestant denominations, including the Seventh-Day-Adventists. So talking to my mother about apostolic succession only got me a very wry look and "poor them."

Fascinating study. And that's just about it.

Practicing Roman Catholic here. This isn't new. Pope Benedict is, by all accounts, a staunch traditionalist (to the point that Catholics go "..." at him) but I don't think that he's being inflammatory.

Not that it justifies any ill will but frankly, Catholics are told all the time that we're not Christian by various Protestant (usually fundamentalist) denominations. There's one stellar example here of a ministry that's dedicated to the conversion of Catholics. *rolls eyes*

Yeah, I think they're just as whack. I grew up in Hemet. If two shall gather in His name, they fight.

What really got me was his return to the mass in latin. I was driving when I heard the news on the radio a few days ago and I thought it was dangerous to broadcast such things,as accidents could happen easily, from historical schock.

Can't wait to see what he comes up with when icons come along in his line of sight. Sorry, I meant graven images.

Huh.

I am perhaps the most unChristian person ever put on the gods' green Earth, but I've been a (take this loosely, as in very) student of religion in general for a long, long time, and when stuff like this comes up, it definitely makes for fascinating reading.

Even if I'm about as far from any line of anything even remotely Catholic as possible.

Maybe that's what makes it so fascinating.
