Someone brought in a bag of apples and oranges to work this morning - I truly love oranges. They take time to peel, true - but they also can be eaten leisurely, one segment at a time...and California grows the best out-of-hand eating oranges. *munches happily*

The phone calls and messages have been nothing but wonderful folks. It's like money from home. Thanks so very muchly.

Oh, of course I called Mom last night. What.

My 82-year-old cancer-surviving Mom? Oh hell yeah.

With her over 60 years in the medical field, all that experience...of course I'm going to take advantage while I can. I know this offer is limited, so -

Her perspective is invaluable. "Mom, this cancer has a 95% cure rate these days - "

"When the treatments work, dear. When it works."

I'll admit it. I'm greedy when it comes to people these days - and it may not be that new a development. (Look at the number of journals I read, and if you can see it, how many actually have me friended back - the ratio isn't all that spiffy if I wanted to be an attention whore - it's something like 49% or less. I don't care. I'm still adding.)

If I meet you, I don't care how it happened. If I like you - I don't question it. I follow up on it.

I have enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] catsonmars and [livejournal.com profile] kiyone and all the people they've brought into my life since that on-the-fly dinner at AX that year - stuff like that only reinforces my belief that you gotta go for it. I am not everyone's cup of tea, but by gum - you're going to know it one way or the other.

I want to like you - seriously. Look at who I married - and how we met. Do you think I could ever consider meeting someone on the internet any less valid than meeting them the 'conventional' route?

I don't question. I don't think about it beyond the reasonable precautions you would take in any contact with strangers. (C'mon.) People are good - knowing people is wonderful.

Life is finite. Forget short. The only thing I get to take with me when I leave is you. My memories of you. And I don't care if I have so many some spill over.

This morning, just to have something to eat my breakfast over, I turned on Animal Planet and stumbled right over an episode of Emergency Vets I'd watched last when Cliff was still alive in 1998, no kidding.

Yeah, I can tell when Cliff's been by. Even he's checked in, there's the proof. I couldn't believe it wasn't a new episode - until I checked the guide.

*blows air* It's stuff like this that keeps me from being an atheist - there's something more, don't ask me what - but it keeps coming around to remind me. *knock knock* HEY TOOTS.

Screw it. This is what bandwidth's for, and I haven't hit quota yet.

Be nice, or I'll upload the soundtrack to the Electric Light Parade. Yes, I have it.

I'm glad you added me.

Really.

I was a little freaked at first, but I'm glad you did.

Let me try that again

I am nice. Just ask Belle.

I have that soundtrack too. Years ago I got a three CD Disney soundtrack box set that had some classics along with some of the soundtracks from Disneyland. I wasn't happy when they moved the parade to Florida, but now I'm not close enough to either park for it to matter.

I'm another one with the Disneyland Soundtrack on CD :) It's in a box in the garage...

I'm having a good day today, too. Gerhardt's cast came off, work didn't have anything for me, I produced two kick-butt VO auditions (one of which I got confirmation that the client downloaded), [livejournal.com profile] chronovius stayed home today and came with me to G's doctor's appointment, and we're going to have dinner tonight with the friend we're going to be seeing tomorrow, because we're going to be in the area and she's just really nifty.

Your posts make me happy, Donna, because even if I don't always understand what you're saying, I know you're being honest about what you're saying, and you don't hide who you are. At this point, I don't remember how we found eachother on LJ, but I'm damned glad we did, and that we met up at AX that year.

I know what you mean about being greedy about people.
Danny and I were talking today about my hanging out on mothering.com answering lactation questions in my spare time.
Danny said "It's a good thing you like people..."
and we both finished, "One of us has to!"

Awwwww!

You know, I was just thinking the other day how every time I have dinner or lunch with you, I seem to have a different person with me each time. I almost felt a little bad about that, like I wasn't sure if you liked or appreciated that. Also that sometimes my friends are abrasive and potentially offensive (such as the pool conversation courtesy of Jasmine last dinner), so I worried a little.

And I think we met before AX -- I met you at Shinsengumi during E3 2005 courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] muimi07. Not being local really hasn't stopped me from visiting often enough though.

Dude, I absolutely dig it. *laughs* D'ya think I'd have any problem putting a conversation going Wrong to a quick end? They were delightful - poor Jim is going to be so gobsmacked when we finally get him to a RHPS....

You just can't replace people. Not for anything.

Tangentially, I'd love to see what you have to say about this blog article about the adoption process, from a South Korean adoptee:
My dad promptly phoned up Wells Fargo and asked if their rates were competitive and

Wooooooow. I can see now why we're doing classes - specific classes - to address each and every issue she brings up. I've heard mention of the Korean adoptees being the best, most available study group on international adoption, the kind we will be doing...as far as impact of the loss of culture, the impact of the entire process, etc.

It should also be noted that never have I heard about Korea being a spiffy place to adopt from, and that it's not done any more to my knowledge. You can certainly see why.

Heartsent does adoptions from Guatemala...from an agency that places children with very clearly documented parental ties (you want to know the birth mother? They know. Want to meet the foster family? No problem.). Pictures, the whole works.

China differs very clearly from every other program in that the children are found abandoned, with little or no information on the birth parents. One of the reasons you don't see children under the age of 6 months placed, is that it takes that long to do the required searches for the birth family. The next year? I have to believe what I'm told - it just takes that long to get the kids paper-ready for an international adoption.

I'll bookmark this one, and forward it onto Heartsent. Very enlightening - and I believe it to be entirely true.
