*shakes up friends list* YO.

It's time for Nisei Week again.

The best of the best festivals Little Tokyo does, the annual Open House that if you want to know anything about Japanese culture, and being of Japanese descent living in Los Angeles...this is your gig.

I haven't missed one in ten years. It's that good.

Traditionally, we get up EARLY and get breakfast in Chinatown...then park the car and walk, walk, walk. Dress appropriately, include a hat and plenty of water - because August is HOT in Los Angeles, and I don't mean like teh sexay.

Anyone want to come out the first weekend - which is the 18th - I'll be around, but closing weekend, I'll be up in SFO for AOD.

Need to remember to bring flowers for the Go For Broke Monument this year....

Have fun! While I won't be able to make it, I will be spending some time this weekend scouring Manhattan for Taiyaki. After all, even a vegetarian can enjoy some red bean paste filled fish heads when they're made out of rice flour.

I would go with you as I have for the last how many (?) years... but...

Well...

There's this.... half a continent between me and there.

*wry*

I'm game for going. Want to hit the Tofu fest too?

We normally do - although I'm wondering if Sunday isn't the day for that one (I seem to recall Jim missing it last time for some reason). Start looking for coupons in the local papers - I think Sushi & Tofu is one of the ones that puts dollar off coupons in their issues getting this close to the event....

Heh - it's Nihonmachi Street Fair here this weekend.

Leave a flower at Go for Broke for me. (And I really gotta go see the memorial they put up at the Tanforan camp.)

And hey - wanna try to have lunch or something while you're up here for AOD?

Saturday of the con - I'd have to make you come to the hotel. Sunday, though - I could pick up and deliver you and yours wherever you wanted to go!

Tell me what works best - I'd love to.

We're going to pass each other on the road. Connie and I will be in San Francisco the 17th through the 21st, and in Los Angeles the 23rd through the 26th. Thanks for the tip, though, because we're enthusiasts of Japanese culture. By coincidence, we're staying at the New Otani when we're in LA. :-)

23rd through the 26th? You'll be here during the week of the festival - and the New Otani is walking distance from everything, and I do mean everything in Little Tokyo. Ask the concierge for some details - you won't regret it.

It would be a squeeze as we're traveling on the 24th, but if you're up for food on the 23rd, that's not too far for us to come and corrupt you take you to Curry House for dinner. If you in, settled and able to have a bit the first day, that is....

Thank you for the advice and the lovely offer. I'm not sure when on the 23rd we'll actually be getting into Los Angeles, though. We've reserved our room starting that evening, but we often arrive late. I know how tricky scheduling things on the day before travel can be, and wouldn't want to inconvenience you guys. I will definitely keep the Curry House in mind.

There is also a lovely kimono show charity event happening in Torrance at the Holiday Inn on the 25th, and Ore Ska Band is going to be playing at the Home Depot Center the same day.

Talk about overbooked.
