It's probably worth mentioning -

I'm not here for the pr0n or the fandumb.
There. I've said it.
I'm not surprised in the least at the steps that have been taken - and taken badly, by any reasonable standard - by Six Apart this year.
This is a service that has grown out of "throw me some cash for a server" to "we need advertising $$$ to support the infrastructure - holy crap!"
These things do impact your experience. In mine, shut-downs like this happened early, often and continuously - and unevenly. Early. Often. Always.
Not saying it's fair. It simply is.
And it very closely mirrors what's happening to us as a culture just about everywhere you turn.
Anything I would say? Well, last time I tried, I couldn't get the page to load for the sound and fury already in progress. I'd have to say there's plenty to go around as it stands.

Date: 2007-08-12 03:19 pm (UTC)But I already have, in a way. I've acquired a stalker- a former colleague who is intent on making my life a misery, and his actions have caused me to no longer be able to post anything from work. Not that I did, but it was nice to be able to post when the idea was hot.
It's sad to see our culture deteriorating around us.

Date: 2007-08-13 02:15 pm (UTC)However, I don't look down on people who are here for fandom. As an English major, I knew a lot of people who wrote fandom for fun. In fact one of my close friends is so good at it, you feel like you're reading a novel when you read her work.
I'm a permenant LJ member because I've been here since 2001 and I love it.
I'm saddened by six apart dealing with things so badly. They need to create a users forum to bounce ideas off and realize the repercussions before making announcements!
