By the strictest definition, not a chance ever. I'm as scary white bread as they come, being of Danish and German genetic origins.

If you ignore race, I'd be sansei, however.

Little Tokyo is nisei - in all its mixing, melding, not-quite-dissapearing into the muddle-ness. I've been in a number of J-towns here and there - ours in Los Angeles is special. Unique - no. But ours enjoys and celebrates itself once a year - and everyone is welcome.

I'd compare it to St. Patrick's Day - where the ads scream everyone "is Irish for one Day." (I ain't Irish either - *grins*)

I still think I should wear a t-shirt that says "It's Okay - White People Scare Me Too" to events like this one. Just for the reaction value.

Except it probably wouldn't impress the elders much. And yes, there are plenty of them about this week.

Your Bad Month of August? Yeah, it's hitting here hard. On Wednesday two of Robert's friends had relatives end up in the hospital - Amber's grandmother ended up in the hospital, and Cecilia's father had a heart attack. They still both find time to see Robert, though, as well as their family members, who are at different hospitals than Robert.

One of the anesthesiology docs that cared for Robert was definitely of some kind of northern European ancestry because he had the blondest hair and the lightest ice blue eyes I've ever seen on a human. I mean, it looked like he had Husky eyes. It was wild looking, and my brain put him in furs on a frozen tundra. I think I've been reading too much of the Icewind Dale trilogy. ;)

Fortunately, this week wasn't a total tosser up here... that was *last* week.

Have fun at the festival! (It's funny, I don't think they do anything like that up here, and I'm pretty certain we've got a bigger Asian population than you do percentagewise... OTOH, Chinese New Year is a Big Deal. Lots of fun.)
