Little Tokyo is nisei - in all its mixing, melding, not-quite-dissapearing into the muddle-ness. I've been in a number of J-towns here and there - ours in Los Angeles is special. Unique - no. But ours enjoys and celebrates itself once a year - and everyone is welcome.
I'd compare it to St. Patrick's Day - where the ads scream everyone "is Irish for one Day." (I ain't Irish either - *grins*)
I still think I should wear a t-shirt that says "It's Okay - White People Scare Me Too" to events like this one. Just for the reaction value.
Except it probably wouldn't impress the elders much. And yes, there are plenty of them about this week.
