The late great Chicago columnist Mike Royko did a "Gun Owner of the Year" award to honor the person who most exemplified the spirit of the NRA. The first year, it went to someone who woke up in the middle of the night, saw what he thought was an intruder at the foot of his bed, grabbed his handgun -- and shot the knob off his johnson. As Royko said, "Someone should erect a statue to this hero of the Second Amendment. I don't know if he'd be willing to pose for it, however."

The second year, it went to a guy whose phone rang in the middle of the night (see a pattern developing here), and he grabbed his gun instead of the receiver and blew his earlobe off. Royko's quip for that one was that it should be on a new NRA poster: "You'll get my gun when you pry it out of my cold, dead ear."

I'd feel more secure in my homeland if we had an IQ test for gun-owners, for one thing. Jesus, we live in a country where we SUE fast food joints for making us fat.
