Makers Faire
May. 4th, 2008 06:38 amI have everything from rockets to carrot seeds to snarky cross-stich pattern books in my tote bag.
I have two CDs from a group playing that I couldn't resist. I'd never heard anything like it and fell in love immediately.
Any event that has Scharffen Berger Chocolate as a sponsor, demonstrator and vendor - can't suck. Tcho Chocolate was there, doing testing.
I am really impressed - this was one of the most gender neutral - without trying at ALL - events, took whatever interest you had, at whatever intelligence level, and ran with it.
MOST hands-on, intentional, we have room for YOU events I've ever seen.
The biggest event of the day starred Mentos and Diet Coke.
Banks and banks of state of the art Singer sewing machines. Lion Yarn had a teaching booth. Just sit down and go for it.
Most amusing? Coming in the door, you are urged - but not required - to get a wristband. Why? Because it indicates you've signed a damage waiver. Now, every time someone looked like they could have used a little help (chocolate demo, guy really needed three hands at one point to both pour and keep it warm at the same time...spills, yanno), they would say "now this could be a bit dangerous" - there was always some wag (like me) who would flash their fashionable BRIGHT REDACTED wristband and remind them they were cleared for action.
Jim's Mom and younger brother (who recommended the event, having gone once before) - had a fantastic day.
Win win fucking win.
Today? I tourist.
Dinner last night was at the Cupertino Curry House (nyah nyah) and included
foogod and
silverkun plus Nick -
mactavish, I need to try the info you gave me via text again - I think I got it down wrong. Tried it yesterday and the party who answered was NOT you.
But I can Sim before breakfast, and I am.
