The day started out with a hard drive crash on my primary system at work. An hour later, 2/3rds of my second machine is rendered inoperative due to emergency maintenance.

About all I got left is telnet, Firefox and yours truly.

I am not losing my mind. I'm not even rattled. If I was the angry type, I'd be LIVID.

But. So not. Serene, even.

How the FUCK did that happen, and how do I teach it?!

(In all honesty, everyone at work knows how this story plays out, I have excellent people working on recovering the data off the hard drive and that's the name of that song. Shit happens. We pull out umbrellas and just deal, usually too busy to gripe. Can't gripe and get work done at the same time, yanno.)

People who just Lose It Completely don't impress me at all anymore. Rather annoying, you want my honest opinion.

Jim ([livejournal.com profile] unclejimbo) and I will be 'auditing' both Baycon and Fanime this weekend. How does one plan this? We're taking Amtrak up Friday, going home Monday - which is two entire days on the train - but when one has laptops, it's ten uninterrupted hours of game time. Each way.

We have hotel space in San Jose, complete with kitchen. You want warm brownies, I'm up to it. I can deliver. Best part of taking the train is that I can take groceries along and nobody bats an eye.

We will be available Saturday and Sunday to pop in to your con site and visit - and after looking at each other and saying 'no, we don't want to do panels or dealer's rooms or any of that' - we decided against buying memberships to either one.

That's how you do both cons in one weekend. That's how. That's not to say I'm tossing the finger at either one, but when one can't figure out WHY the good staff is doing one and not yours when you decided to move your date in DIRECT competition - and then that other? Is having committee drama I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, in plain view (and if I can see it, it's HUGE PLAIN BILLBOARD time)...and I have peeps going to one or the other?

I go see the peeps. Sorry, folks. The conventions just don't have as much to offer - even though some of the panels sound tasty at Baycon, but then again - they always do! ^^

I find visiting in the middle of paid convention activity - really difficult. If you want to take a break, have a coffee ([livejournal.com profile] mactavish, a DAMN BEER) or a soda with either of us, text me (use the tool off the profile page), and I will try to send messages to those who have asked.

I was away having a life over the weekend - so I slogged through the backlog this morning. Will try to go back, but my memory is only so good. You want me, you can have me. Ask.

The family has gone home and I won't have to subject you to me juggling multiple levels at once.

Will have chocolate to share. Yes, I finally got my hands on a bacon bar and I'm not afraid to share it.

Plan to bring knitting, Sims and a camera.

Want?

Spoke to the agency director again this morning - I swear, I am going to have to get used to talking to the Top, Goes No Higher Than Me person. Yes, this is my agency and they aren't afraid to call me and we talk. At length.

(She adopted a five year old, who had HUGE attachment issues lifelong - now in her twenties. We talked about daycare and transitions. We're making plans already. I love this woman - hopefully, she won't end up hating me. ^^)

I ask a lot of detailed questions. I went through training with DCFS, I learned to do that.

The only answer is from the top - and that's be patient. We have at least three layers to go through to get any information, and the group your child was found in is from an area the agencies haven't dealt with before. It's all new.

That would explain a bit.

I've put a priority on getting better medical information - and updated measurements. I may have to punt on shoes - and bring a bunch with me, to get the right size. No worries - the balance can be left with the center. They'll be able to use them.

I spent some hours Saturday buying materials at Joann's. I have a laundry basket full of fabric to iron out and then begin work on. Socks to turn into sock monkeys.

Things I had despaired of ever doing again - and this time, it's for me.

That's Monday. How's yours?

Can you get somebody to draw around foot on paper and mail that to you? The size measurer in shoe stores is generally pretty good, except for people like me who have high insteps and have to get a larger size because my foot is too tall. For a little one, people sometimes get a bigger size anyway.

Also, I'd get a soft kind of shoe, because I've traveled in some very poverty stricken areas and most of the kids weren't used to shoes because they'd never had any. I'd get sneakers with a very soft top to them, like canvas sneakers.

Bacon bar... is it good? I've always been afraid hahaha, but at the same time strangely curious. It's been thought of for many a prank gift for birthdays/christmas, but I hate the idea of wasting food...

I'll be at BayCon and would love to meet up. Either Sat or Sun brunch-ish time (say 11am) would work fine. I'll have my cell phone: two oh six nine oh two six eight oh two. Give a call if you get a chance!

I'm tempted to find out more about your kitchen facility and bring the gluten-free brownie mixes and actually bake them onsite for freshest result. Hmm. Must ponder.
