Welcome to July. Holy cow.

Going to Anime Expo? I'll be hanging out in the karaoke room - find me there. I'm actually looking forward to this - making plans to take the train downtown and everything, instead of driving and parking - and having drinks at Top of the Five and being silly.

Ghad, Top of the Five. If I have to park down there - I'll probably park at the Arco Towers, like I have been since I was 19 years old. That part of town has a BUNCH of old Starsky & Hutch shooting locations - yes, I am nerd. Hear me twit.

But tonight, we finish the LAST of the adoption paperwork - notarizing the financials, the adoption letters, the guardianship statement, etc. - and putting a 3" tall stack of paper, plus his care package into a pouch for the adoption agency and shipping it off.

If there's anything missing or needs to be redone, fine. But I've gotten everything in before July 4th - and that's really later than I wanted. (Damn police clearance.)

Don't forget the cheese, beer and pecans. Don't forget the MTA tokens. Don't forget the laptop, the extra monitor, the first-aid kit or the name badges (green). Don't forget the panic bag in case the schedule runs late and the trains aren't a good idea anymore.

Don't forget to do a quick audit of the series you were collecting to see if anything can be completed.

Charge everything.

GO.

...

Another good adoption journal to read and bookmark. I like her tone and wordcount, to be honest. How did I find her?

One of the adoptee journals I keep tabs on plunked her. Make of that what you will.

...

Something [livejournal.com profile] cadhla posted this morning got me thinking, and reminiscing a bit. Go over and check her out - she's one of the first people I put on the FL, oh so many years ago - for a good reason. She writes, she sings, she sings AND writes what she sings...and she draws comics. Really cute and sassy ones.

But I have to admit some envy. See, she actually could imagine...even if only a fantasy...that someone would actually come for her.

I really would like to know when I was so certain nobody would ever come for me, it disappeared even from my fantasies.

I've always had to go to them, if I wanted anything. Rescue? Pfft.

If only I could have found a way - I remember I started packing my bags when I was 10. Started buying my own dishes at garage sales at 8 or so.

Weirded my Mother the fuck out. And then she handed me off to family friends and my older brother to figure out. (The titled professionals were after that, y'see.) Went to work, then to bed, then to work...inbetween dealing with my sibs, then my step-father....gee, maybe I figured it out then.

If I wanted something, there wasn't anybody else to come and help me. Better go do it myself.

Because...well, waiting for someone to come didn't work so well. It wasn't that they didn't love me, y'understand. They just didn't have time unless I was dying (being 95 lbs and not eating qualify? Right, moving on....) for it.

Yeah, that got me thinking.

Oh, and I had a younger brother, remember. I might have been the afterthought, but he was the unwanted baggage. He dealt by using...started oh, when he was about 11 or 12, I think. Was the perfect kid who didn't create any trouble. Until he got rotten grades, dropped out of school and then got arrested, of course.

There's worse, of course. Name it - and it's in the papers daily.

But there's my point of reference. Probably the other pertinent feature of my childhood and adolescence is the total lack of anything happening to me in my imagination. It was always someone who looked (better) than me, with a cool name. ^^ I was the quintessential Trekkie of the 70's and 80's - I did the conventions, the fanzines and the clubs. When I could find someone else to play with, of course. That wasn't often, or for very long.

So if you find me a bit more forgiving and tolerant to the typical moonshot otaku this weekend, consider the source. If you hang around a bit longer, you'll also see me do what the older folks did with me at the same age.

They listened, they nodded...and then they gently told me to get my head out of my ass.

Ja!

I'll have to find the karaoke room, then. I'm working at the expo tomorrow and Saturday -- are you going to be there Friday as well, or taking that off for the holiday?

As always at AX, give Hank my regards and tell him he needs to show up on IRC more often - I don't think any of the #logh-ers have heard from him in months.

He's been slammed - you might have better luck looking for him over on Facebook -

But it is it impolite to give them maps, just in case they have trouble getting their heads out of their asses on their own?

So, [livejournal.com profile] chronovius will be attending AX tomorrow, with our friend Brandy. She's going to be wheelchair-laden, because she twisted her ankle last weekend. BoyZilla and I will be staying home, because I can't deal wtih crowds and oh, lucky day, I have work. Bleah.

Ok so I'm creepy and reading your archives now because I feel like I've missed out on asking you a lot of the pertinent questions and just been content to let you be "Donna, that cool lady who hangs out with us at AX," because to me letting some people exist in one dimension is cool.

But I'm realizing that was a mistake on my part so I hope you forgive my stalking. You guys are awesome.

*MWAHS* Takes awesome to know awesome. And it's not stalking. It's doing your homework. If I ever put anything down that I should regret now, I'd love to know what it is.

Welcome aboard!

In other news, my LJ archives are embarrassing because I started this thing in 8th grade, so I would advise you to *not* do *your* homework.

Feh. I rewrote Speed Racer when I was in 8th grade. I'm trying to remember what shame is right now....

Back when I began my journal, I spoke in bakanese and devoted 99% of my time to reading a fanfic my friend wrote in which we were inserted into the Fushigi Yuugi universe and then our favorite characters of course fell in love with us because we were beautiful and wonderful and brave and funny and smart and agagagaga.

Let me find it. Aha. I will not pretend I didn't also read it and secretly feel superior about my own control of the English language. But that's neither here nor there.

Oh and when we weren't doing that, we were roleplaying some fantasy BS about how I was a knight engaged to a prince and she was the king of thieves and, yeah. Um. Original. Fun, but incredibly self-congratulatory and of course it was only the two of us and have I mentioned that said friend's grammar is atrocious?

Sigh. Nobody knows about these things. Don't tell on me ok? XD
