I've been doing something just about every day, but most of it has been spent mending - I'd have to say.

I went in to work and filled out my new hire paperwork - I start Monday with the new gig. I timed it just right to have pizza with my new department, and I have to say it looks promising indeed.

VERY small company. Equally small department with few people wearing many hats. As always, I gravitated to the net ops guys right away - don't ask me why, it just happens.

I'm also a bit embarrassed - see, there is a local EDI user's group that meets once in a while around here, and I've been a member for a number of years. And well, when the shit hit the fan, I called one of the board members for advice and an understanding shoulder.

There was a meeting this week that I thought I'd be a good new employee about, and wait until I got clearance from the new boss before attending.

Turns out the guy I'm taking the EDI stuff over from attended the meeting, everyone there knew me and all of a sudden I'm a minor celebrity. No pressure, mind. Oh, no. None.

Last supervisor at Old Job didn't think they were worth the time, effort or exposure. That's why I hadn't gone in a long time. The new boss? Thinks they're cool - but also appreciated what I had to say about them. That they're largely made up of contractors who can talk - when you're from a company, you kind of have to sit there and take it in because you're constrained by confidentiality clauses not to tell all. But they are a good place to learn - and so, it looks like that will continue.

I have eleven years experience with this - the guy who's been working with it has been learning it on the job for the past year and it hasn't been all that fun for him.

Also, it's a given I won't be able to travel to Taiwan to get Xander. I don't qualify for Family Leave, I don't get to use any vacation time for a year and I don't want to muck this up in any way, shape or form. Called the agency and advised them - and I have to get more employment verifications. Not today. I think I'm going to wait three weeks or so. It's just - ARGH. It makes it a bit easier, cost-wise, but Jim is going to have to do this alone. It'll be a quick trip, that's for sure. He'll also be able to stay home with the kiddo for the three weeks, and maybe we'll need to get some in-home before transitioning to day care if the space we're on the list for isn't ready by then.

We need more toys. For the boy. I need some backyard stuff too.

The new job sounds wonderful, but I am sorry that you can't go to Taiwan. I can see the good and bad to staying home, but that's got to be infinitely hard. Maybe a good friend should come stay with you while Jim is in Taiwan to help keep you busy during your non-work hours?

I dunno - I think I'm going to be spending evenings on webcam, if we can do it. With only Jim going, it'll be less than four days - so not much time away.

I think I'll be plenty busy getting the house cleaned up, food stocked and so on. At least, that's how it feels today!

Speaking of young Mr. Xanxan Bell, do you have a ballpark idea of what size he'll be wearing when he gets to you? Should people be aiming for a size 4 in sweaters and such?

He is *wee* - somewhere around 33" - 36" and between 22 and 33 lbs. I'm buying everything about 24 months right now, maybe 1T.

Will do. Have been following that journal, but am not sure it's on my small reading filter.

He *is* tiny. :) It's interesting; facially, he looks pretty much on track from what I recall of that age, so maybe he's just going to be a little boo? He's so cute.
