I really had no idea the old busted joint was as busted as it was. In all honesty, I should expect the motherboard to fail at this point within the next ten bootups - it's that bad.

How do I know? I have a new machine that took my old Sims 2 game and ran it without flinching. Hacks and all? Hacks, over 5 gigs of custom content and all.

I do know now how many Sims you get in Pleasantview in a clean install, all expansion packs. 725. My game? 2,689. It's a month older than the kid, and this is the fourth machine I've ported it to, and the third OS.

The old machine takes nearly half an hour just to boot the OS. As soon as I can, I will retire it to a glorious recycling. And cry like a little kid - 2005 was really a vintage year, it turns out. Who knew?

iPad? God, that would be great for bedside charting. I can't wait for someone to pick that up and run with it. I'm still waiting for the EDI to catch up with the desire for electronic charts for all medical records...what? Oh, sorry. Professional geekage. What, you want to do what with that iPad? PLAY GAMES? Oh, crap. I GUESS SO.

(I'm so locked into getting work done. And much as I steer clear of the medical profession, I certainly seem doomed to get wrapped up in it again someday.)

I see a pad, I see someone writing on it. Someone needing a lot of notes says charting to me - and having had the experience of both paper and electronic medical records, electronic is NIFTY and more people should do them. Problem is, the best example going right now is still doing them with a keyboard, mouse and 14" monitor. With drop-downs. BAH.

Meanwhile, the cool kids are thinking of new ways to RPG with the item. Wish the first thing I thought of was 'PLAY' when confronted with something. I see pens and paper, I think to-do lists.

And something I can't put in my purse or in my pocket is not portable. Sorry.

Earlier this week, 1.5 million people filled the streets of Berlin, Germany to watch a several-day performance by France's Royal de Luxe street theatre company titled "The Berlin Reunion". Part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Reunion show featured two massive marionettes, the Big Giant, a deep-sea diver, and his niece, the Little Giantess.

Total awesome sauce, and how did I find out about it?

Twitter, 'donttrythis' - Yup, Adam Savage, that guy from Mythbusters.

And yes, my favorite orchard in Oak Glen has a Twitter as well. (snowlineapples)

Mom always calls me a product of my generation. So far, she couldn't be more right, could she? *titters*

I'll be in church in three hours, then probably in Hollywood. Life in California. It is good.

Others, you're the bug.

The tech at home is just hating me. Second ethernet bridge to come into the house defective - nearly obsolete tech to begin with, can't be entirely surprised.

Anyone with an old Mac tower - using an ethernet bridge to get connectivity to a wireless router - got one they love and would buy again?

I've bought two Linksys products so far. Methinks Netgear is going to get some attention now.

*grump*

Go ahead, back up your iTunes library to discs.

Tell me how many and how long it takes YOU.

Me? Backing up what I've gotten in a year? Four discs and nearly eight hours.

OUCH.

Three calls to tech support later, the wireless router is installed and working properly.

I started at 9:00 AM. Check the time.

However, my house is no longer running autistic. Viva the net!
