One of them - and it would make sense to assume that was one of the reasons he stayed in foster care all this time, so contributory to the second one.
The reports were saying possible cure by age 6 - but none of my research supported that possibility with the diagnosis at birth - it's a congenital fault.
But the bloodwork said otherwise, so it's being worked up again.
If they decide he does not have hypothyroidism, I suggest you still have his thyroid function checked every X months for a couple of years.
Some people's thyroids get better and worse before it settles into a stable state so it's good to keep tabs on it.
I speak from my own experience. We believe my thyroid is dying, but we're going to wait another year or two to diagnose it because it gets better and it gets worse.
Good plan. It would be awesome if he never ever ever had to take thyroid hormone again, because it would be One Less Thing To Worry about, but given that I've been on and off thyroid hormone a bunch of times, I thought I'd weigh in on the matter.
Thyroid problems seem to have been hereditary in my mom's family; mom was hypo, mine shut down and went nuts growing in my 40s. Total surprise to me at the time...
I've got thyroid problems on both sides of the family. I can never remember which family members had which problems, but we had both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, so the doctor monitors my thyroid closely. I hope someday it'll actually stabilize so I can have One Less Thing To Worry About.
I have hypothyroidism... but that's not the reason I'm here. I am sooooo happy for all of you, you were right, this really is good news and really does cheer me up. He is sooo adorable and this is my dream, gives me so much hope. I am just so happy.
I had a good idea of what was going on over there, so didn't poke...but I've been thinking of you often, and hoping things were sorting themselves out.
