[Poll #1407893]

For the record, I'm O+

I'm A+ and M is B+, which may mean that N could be just about anything. Depends on the exact make-up of our A-ness and B-ness, although I think my dad is O+, which would make me AO rather than AA, meaning N at least could be A, B or AB. I do like the logic of blood types!

Dad is A- which means he has people banging down his door for his blood. Unfortunately the last few times he went to give it was a little too disorganized for Mr. OCD. He's swears he's not going back. I don't know what to do besides encourage him to give blood down here...where things have a small possibility of being better organized.

It's funny, I'm a universal donor who can't donate. I spent some time eating mad cows overseas during the 90's outbreaks and have been forbidden from giving blood. What gives? I sometimes moo, eat grass in my yard and run into the wall, but otherwise I seem ok.

i can't give either... i made some mention of my SVT (an electrical glitch where the heart starts to race) the first time i tried... and now i am blacklisted unless i can find a doc to clear me. good times.

the fun thing is i haven't had any symptoms since i was a kid... aside from when i was pregnant.

I'm blacklisted from giving blood until November 2010 because a cruise I took last November stopped in Haiti. (They're afraid I could have Malaria in my blood, but no symptoms of it.)

I was crushed when I went to donate and was turned away. I'd been laid off from my job the week prior and was looking forward to getting out of the house to do something good. I used to donate as often as I could, so I'm still sad about the year blacklist.

Me too.

Also, the last time I was allowed to give blood, I embarrassed myself by passing out cold when I got up from the table. And there was a huge man helping me get up! You might think this would be a great way to meet men, but the one with the scary needles aren't impressed by fainters. After a couple hours of headaches and nausea, he told me I shouldn't do that anymore.

Then I started mooing and complaining about the quality of hay.

People are stunned when I tell them I don't have a clue what blood type I am. I'm needle phobic and am not the least bit curious.

I didn't know until I gave birth two years ago and somebody told me.

Now, see, I got over my needlefreaking by giving blood.

After seeing the GINORMOUS NEEDLE ZOMG a few times, I had to get a tetanus booster, and the needle was so much smaller I laughed at the silly thing.

For all the times I got stuck with a needle, I don't know what my blood type is. It's kind of embarrassing.

Granted, those times it was for testing purposes, and necessary. I'm even more embarrassingly needle-phobic, and they have trouble getting blood from me. Otherwise I'd probably be a blood donor by now.

*sighs* I was always curious, though...

Ditto. I've come a long way from the eight year old who had to be strapped down due to kicking nurses, but I still can't much stand needles.

Hell, when I was 16 and had to get the last round of boosters, you would have thought I was still the screaming eight year old. They did have to hold me down so they could give me the shots.

Plus, due to some of the phlebotomists who drew blood had trouble with me. So that just reinforces the needle-phobia.

Oh yes. It takes an average of four jabs for them to get blood out of my arm. The record was one time where they actually had to try both arms, and I wound up with a total of about thirteen lovely needle bruises, and had to explain to my at-the-time school that no, I had not suddenly become a heroin junkie.

I think A-neg *is* about 6 percent of the population, so it's interesting that your survey is starting to reflect that (it's at 6.9 percent at the moment).

I gave my first pint at age 17 at my high school's first-ever blood drive. However, I haven't donated in about 10 years -- I've just had employers that don't hold blood drives, and I'm not near a permanent donor center. Excuses, I know.

A+. I choose to believe that this means I'm great at having blood!

I remember my blood type (A+) by thinking, "I've got smart blood". :-)

I don't know because I am not allowed to give blood.

I'm a Golden Drop donor from way back. I watch the needle go in. Heh! I even race with other people, some who started before my needle goes in. One guy had been there for like, 10 minutes before me, and I was done before him.

Looking at the results, I can see that [livejournal.com profile] feyandstrange probably gets asked if they're interested in giving two pints.

I knew I was O before I had Delia and figured out I was O+ during my pregnancy.
