Okay, here we go again.

Nobody else got the secondary infection - and when I need both the inhaler AND the cough syrup with codeine in it to stop coughing long enough to sleep, and then have to clear my sinuses of the same amount of goo four mornings running....

Yup, back to the doctor for antibiotics I go.

Someone put a mask on my icon, please.

Kid is back to daycare this morning - I'm sure he missed it. They are also going to start doing more water play (it's hot enough, boy howdy) so he had swim trunks and closed toe plastic shoes with beach towel added to his cubby this week.

I'd consider swimming lessons except I'm too sick. They do them on Sunday mornings. *facesmacks* Another reason for the copay tonight. Oh, and no swimsuit. Lost the weight and haven't gotten around to buying a new one. Yeah, really.

Something I had not expected to crop up - I can come up with a bunch of things *I* want to do with the kid, but not many of them seem to be panning out with regard to what he does innately.

We spent a lot of time yesterday just hanging out watching movies, with him getting easily distracted...which kinda concerns me. It's almost like I'm entertaining him...not parenting. And I surely can't do anything without him attached to my hip. Hence, my 'now what do I do?' reaction about 3:30 PM on Sunday afternoons. I have an hour and a half of a kid who wants - something to do with me - and I'm fresh out. And tired out. Oh, that's right - I'm sick. Nevermind. (I keep forgetting. This is not normal. I'm not always going to be sick. Except I have been since he got here. Right. What would I know.)

AX is this weekend - I have GOT to get better by then, or all the work (and $$$) I'm putting into doing it is going to feel pretty damn stupid by the end. To the good, we have a fantastic backup sitter onboard now, though.

LOCALS - my daycare is doing a car wash fundraiser. Will be tapping everyone - it lets them keep doing great stuff without raising my tuition costs, and it's not selling candles or wrapping paper...let alone the scary frozen cookie dough/cheesecakes. Let's face it - who doesn't need a car wash?

Don't remember when it is. Have stuff in car. Will post later.

Had [livejournal.com profile] silverkun nearby for a week - THAT was wonderful. Got the backyard equipment assembled on Sunday morning with his help...and that was all good too.

Will start tapping committee members to be onhand in August for birthday party.

Considering puppy party. But first - gotta get through today, doctor tonight and hopefully better by Wednesday.

(Who suggested 'Perdido Street Station' to me? Found it unread on the shelf over the weekend and it's been AWESOME so far.)

I dunno... maybe try to teach him to knit or crochet?

or maybe read to him?

I have a copy of the "If you give a mouse a cookie..." treasury, which includes all of the books. If you want it, I can send it ASAP.

I have that one - and he loves books. He loves the Zoonews magazine the San Diego Zoo Foundation sends us monthly just as much!

But - books are also getting ready to go to bed things, and last about five minutes. Then we're onto the next thing...which is....heaven knows.

Do you have any Duplo blocks? And would he be interested in trying to build things?

I say Duplo because he's still young yet and regular LEGOs are for 5 and up.

Have you figured out what his big interests are outside of Spongebob and such?

There's nothing wrong with "entertaining" him, IMO, so long as it's something he likes doing.

We have some of the same issues with Alan (and he's 6 1/2). Hopefully you can set up play dates soon, they'll help.

Have you tried coloring? Or a leapster or some such kid computer - he may like that.

Hope you feel better soon - maybe the doctor has suggesitons on how you can get less sick?

Yes, exactly. And I'm also with [livejournal.com profile] caitlin on Duplos. There's always someone freecycling Thomas the tank engine trains and tracks. They're as good as blocks for a puzzle/block type activity.

There's also safety scissors and glue and crayons.

*goes back to being 5 to remember what mom did with us*

Make cookies.

Get him a keyboard and piano lessons (or whatever instrument you can stand. Yamaha makes a silent guitar and with headphones, that might be nice).

Tell him the story of how he came to be yours, and how much you love him, while you're sitting in a big arm chair/rocking chair, cuddling him and doing something you love (knitting/crocheting, relaxing, whatever).

4 year olds have the attention span of ... 4 year olds. So him losing focus isn't surprising.

Oh, and bug kits or science projects were a major favorite in our house at that age. Ant farms, goldfish, butterfly nets, licorice pens that you could chew on(we used to get them at the discovery store, but I don't know if they are still in business), fingerpaints, project boards (with star stickers for every time he gives mom a hug. 5 stars = park day and lunch with mom!)
