I empathize. I didn't realize how much I need my B12 shot til I perked up the day after I gave it to myself... um... 2 weeks late. I can't absorb the stuff through my gut, and without it I become anemic and have all sorts of unhappy crap happen. Like being falling dead tired to the point people ask, "Do you have sleep apnea?"

Ahh.... there are worse reasons not to be able to donate. But still, if you've got anemia (which I've battled a lot over the years), you can try 'Blood Builder" which I believe is available at vitamin places and Whole Foods.

My OB wanted me on Slow FE, but it makes me quite ill. Instead, I've upped my intake of iron rich foods like spinach. Good luck.

Compared to traditional iron supplements, SlowFE is a godsend...so if that did you in, your way is the ONLY way to do anything about it, short of something IV. (Have a dialysis patient, discover every modality of treating anemia. Believe it.)

As a sidebar, they won't let me donate at all, because I lived in that hotbed of disease, Switzerland. I can't even donate anymore if I want to. *facepalm*

This is apparently something they started a few years back, due to rampant mad cow hysteria. The fact that we have had homegrown mad cows right here in the US apparently doesn't mean anything. Durr.

I grew up there, so I'd have to count about 20 years. What really makes me mad though is the fact that I used to be able to donate, and I did. Nothing like shutting the barn door way the heck after the fact. I still am not even sure it needed shutting, seeing as the US has had mad cows of its own. We're all a big giant pool of pond scum :P
