I am vexed by losing most of my day yesterday to the freeways and vagaries of being called to daycare by a mystery rash that disappeared before I got there...and then returning for the holiday pageant less than two hours later.

I DID discover what one can get done in half an hour, but still. Day at work - toast. Vexed.

Then, when kid was put down to sleep early (no nap, waaay overtired and I mentioned mystery rash? He's got a nice juicy cough right now. TO BED WITH YOU!) - at 7:00 PM - what do I discover, but my fella doing the same thing. Inside of five minutes? LOG LOG LOG SNAAAARRRRRR scupscupscup BAAAAAH

This is the best thing in the world to put kid to sleep, but I just lost my evening too. HELLO, CHRISTMAS STUFF, FOUR HOURS? The lights are off, everyone is asleep (except me) and yeah. So I attempt to load my Sims 2 game (which throws me the finger as I try to do things my graphics adapter HATES me for) three times. Well, there is always Plants vs. Zombies (which I am now stuck on) and trying to catch up on Twitter using TweetDeck for the iPod (nasty), moving to the mini (not much better) and then opening a browser window to get back more than two hours. LAME.

But, I am a resourceful bird. I break out some cold sake and manage sleep by 10:00 PM.

At 2:30 AM, I hear kid coughing and get up. He's hungry, so we go out to the kitchen to eat yogurt together.

Not much later, after being put back to bed - we hear "Daddy - what's that light doing?"

The patio has a motion-sensitive porch light - and something has tripped it. Likely, a cat. No biggie.

Then the startled intake of wonder "OH DADDY! It's Not A Kitty! What's that TAIL?"

I mention it might be a possum to Jim. They've visited us before. Jim goes to investigate.

Not A Kitty is a big raccoon. A BIG one. Stripey tail and big eyes and kid is standing on his bed watching this piece of Animal Planet investigate the patio furniture. I was wondering when they'd show up - it's about the only thing short of a coyote we haven't had come to visit. I think about how this means no mice or rats for the time being and go back to sleep. There are ripe guavas in the backyard right now - this is a gimme.

I remember our cats are current on their rabies shots. I go back to sleep.

Yesterday, it was over 80 degrees - I have mentioned I can recall 90 degree Christmas Days, right?

Two trips to the markets here and I still don't have what I could have gotten with one trip to a Stater Brothers in Hemet. VEXED, I SAY. Guess what I'm doing on my way home tonight?

So behind. Welcome to the race to see if we make it -

You will make it. You are strong and resourceful. Have I mentioned how much I admire you? Well, I do. Seriously. You are an inspiration. {{hugs}} I hope everyone gets over their creeping crud quickly and that you are spared.

Sorry about the sickness.

But aren't wild animals in the yard a special gift?
