Dear Yahoo.

I know converting my Geocities stuff over to Yahoo was only a temporary measure, a stopgap at best - to prevent me from losing things I really didn't remember I had anymore. Seriously. I knew there were things on those two sites I didn't want to lose, even if I didn't remember them at the time you were getting ready to purge the servers.
But you gave me enough warning to make those conversions in time.
Unfortunately, a year later? When it was time to pay again? Why, I called. I advised you to take care of both accounts. You told me you had.
You missed one. And when it went delinquent? You couldn't email me anymore. And while there was a phone number on the account? Why, it's a company policy NOT to use it!
So the account closed, you purged the data and didn't tell me. Not once. Now? Now you can't recover it.
Not the fan fiction site. MY WEDDING SITE. Thanks a lot.
This is me, changing the registrars on the domains I bought. This is me, getting ready to move the remaining site off your servers. This is me, trying to recover what I can from archive.org and remaking the site elsewhere.
Because you just can't be bothered. Well, guess what. I won't bother you anymore.
Not with anything.

Date: 2011-01-05 07:18 am (UTC)The way I manage websites is to keep the whole thing on my machine at home, and push it up to the server when I change anything. A program called
rsync
makes this easy for sites on reputable servers.I recommend dreamhost.com
