We're walking away. There were more than two other offers on the table, and they were all raising the asking price.

It was already $6,000 more - and if I added another $2,000, that was the entire amount of money we could have spent on the move itself - let alone the restoration we're doing on furniture and the piano. There wouldn't be anything left.

And they were firm on that deposit. Bastids. Fine.

I'm going to take the advice and get this move done - get us into temporary housing, even if it's only two weeks at a time - board the pets as needed and get into a better bargaining position.

The only consolation is that the housing values double in five years around here. Hey, I could be in San Francisco. It could be worse.

Hang tight...something better will come along.

I'm starting to look for a 2 bedroom condo in North San Diego County... If it weren't for my parents, there is no way I could even think about it... *sigh*

I am guessing it is hard to live in limbo...Keep sharing how things are doing, what is going on and keeping getting the support you need. Thanks for sharing everything! =)

I'm sorry. Sounds like you made the right decision though. You will get a house, you will.

The reason housing prices are so high in your area is probably that there is a real estate bubble. I'd wait out until the market gives (this has already happened in some areas), and then you'll definitely have a better bargaining position.
