...right place right place right place....
Jun. 1st, 2003 07:45 pmSo I took Mark Hartman out to dinner at the Alpine Inn tonight.
He's the one who masterminded the telecom wiring in the house, and I needed to reimburse him for materials - not to mention throw some cash at him and his buddies for the time they put in doing the work.
I really had no idea what the Alpine Inn at Alpine Village had on tap for tonight, outside of traditional German food.
Turns out they had live music. And dancing. No, it wasn't a rave.
Accordians. Yup. Polka. And some classic ballroom stuff.
Nobody dancing was under 65, I'd bet my shorts on it.
And most of them were damn good. One couple, I'd place in their 70's - slender, willowy, must have taught ballroom for decades, elegant...OH. They were wonderful to watch.
silverkun - you haven't lived until you've seen Asians in lederhosen doing polka. And having the time of their aged lives. Stepping outside, I overheard the the male of the ballroom couple talking about his trip to Japan and how much he was telling his friends to "go! Go, I tell you! It's wonderful...."
German music, german food...Japanese (I'd wager some Pinoy couples too), Mexican, and the staple white bread folks - and I can't tell you how glad I was when I saw at least one pair of women doing some damn fine polka with each other. Everyone having a good time - old home week.
I'm from Hemet - I grew up on old folks. But this synergy between cultures was new - and unexpected in the age group. There's hope, I tell ya. Twenty-somethings may rule popular culture and fashion, but seventy-somethings rule the world -
I had the venison for dinner. Yup, I ate Bambi. He was delish.
I'm in such the right place.
