Health Insurance -
Aug. 6th, 2003 10:15 amThis comparison by state was interesting....
California in the least expensive top 10. Texas and Florida in the most expensive top 10.
I strongly suspect this is tied to our availability to MediCal - and that it pays a whole lot of health care costs. For example, more children are born under MediCal than any other insurance plan, including private pay. And having a baby is the number one reason people visit a hospital - did you know that?
Now, it's likely there will be some hue and cry over our high tax rates. I would ask that you look at what the money is spent on - and I assure you, MediCal is not an expensive program. Fraud? The providers and billers are the biggest offenders...not the recipient of services.
Look where the money goes - this state has a balanced budget requirement in our constitution. If someone went over, the money comes from somewhere else -
But they won't ask you for more money to pay those things. They'll just tell you that education, social programs, car registration fees are going to need more money.
Or that these policies were enacted during Republican tenures in the governor's office.
