Well, it took surgery to get to the bottom of things with the dog. An exploratory showed a deep, well-established infection in the paw - but no idea what caused it. A puncture wound, most likely - from what, who knows - but it had been there a while.
Poor little dog.
She gets put under, gets her little paw opened up and drained and is now wearing one of those dorky Elizabethan collars. That, soaks twice a day with antibiotics and painkillers every 12 hours. Yes, folks - the vets here know what I meant by having pain management on board when I left the office. She likely had been hurting for days.
That was the sum total of the day. When not taking care of her, we were horizontal. I slept all afternoon, and will likely sleep more once I finish here.
