Well, it took surgery to get to the bottom of things with the dog. An exploratory showed a deep, well-established infection in the paw - but no idea what caused it. A puncture wound, most likely - from what, who knows - but it had been there a while.

Poor little dog.

She gets put under, gets her little paw opened up and drained and is now wearing one of those dorky Elizabethan collars. That, soaks twice a day with antibiotics and painkillers every 12 hours. Yes, folks - the vets here know what I meant by having pain management on board when I left the office. She likely had been hurting for days.

That was the sum total of the day. When not taking care of her, we were horizontal. I slept all afternoon, and will likely sleep more once I finish here.

I feel terrible about the dog.

Poor pup! But at least she's on the road to recovery now, thanks to you!

Awwww, but she's going to get better now because you helped her. Hope it heals soon.

For some reason this reminds me of the George Bernard Shaw story, "Androcles and the Lion," about a Roman slave who helps pull a thorn out of a lion's paw. Later, when he is supposed to be devoured by a lion in the Colosseum, it turns out that the lion is the one he helped, and the beast refuses to attack him. So Androcles is given his freedom and lives with the lion happily ever after.

So, uh, when the centurions come for you, remind the pup what you've done. :)

Poor puppydawg. I'm glad she's going to feel better.

And yes, the satellite dish colors are berserk. But necessary.

Poor nuddle paw :(

I always feel so bad for dogs wearing funnels. They know they look ridiculous, and that other dogs are laughing at them.

The cone of canine (and feline) humiliation. There are a few other options available, depending on how long pupzilla has to wear it... This one is quite entertaining...
