Grand Central, We Never Close -
Jul. 9th, 2007 12:56 pmWhat a weekend. Should have been twice as long.
I kept throwing my hands up, saying "that's just how it came together" as yet another group of completely unrelated friends showed up at the door to visit.
Everyone going somewhere else, but stopping in to say hi. It was good.
First up was Andre, Delacey and Nik - Andre went to school with me, back in the ol' Poly days - that's now almost 25 years ago (cringe) - advised him to get an LJ, it's free - we'll see. One of my old school Mac people - he does Mac networking/consulting work in Minneapolis, his wife does chemical engineering (she was out in Long Beach for a conference, hence the visit). They're holding it at the Long Beach Convention Center and staying at the Westin. I asked them to let me know if they've fixed all the elevators - and we spent some table time talking about AX.
digitaldraco showed up shortly thereafter, and we ate food - talked and waited for
silverkun and
cyberotic_waste to arrive from AZ. Andre scooted about 4:00 PM, for points East - and shortly after that, the second wave arrived - right as dinner was coming out of the oven.
So, we ate. Then went out, found the crepe and gelato place, and ate again. (Gelatopia, over on PCH - really good deal for WW, if you omit the gelato in your crepe cone. Crepe points out to 2, and they made me a cone with a whole Granny Smith apple, chopped up at the bottom with cinnamon. Granted, the custard gelato added a bit, but I can see me having one of these on a regular basis with just the fresh fruit and crepes - the apple only added a point, and it's goooood.) They make the crepes fresh to order - and then adroitly make a cone out of them and then fill with fresh fruit, a topping and top with gelato.
We then came back to the house, and hooked up the Wii
silverkun brought - and then the guys decided They Needed One More Controller - and abandoned ship for Target, leaving Gypsy and me to man the fort. We made Mii's and did awful things to them.
I set up Sims2 to show off Seasons - and the dumb game only gave me a good rainshower. We bid adieu to
digitaldraco, and shortly after that, sent everyone to bed. ("Jim, quit killing zombies. You're going to BE a zombie tomorrow at work!")
Sunday AM, Jim did make it out the door, un-zombiefied - but forgot the shoes I'd gotten for our routine cat-sitter (I do favors like that for people who brave my house to feed and play with my kitties). I took Rey and Gypsy out to the Local Place (King's Hawaiian Bread's outlet store) for breakfast (how many times do I get to have Sunday breakfast with friends, that also includes rice and Spam?) - then gave them good directions and we parted company. I quickly drove to Bellflower to drop off shoes, then beat feet back to Los Angeles to pick up
catsonmars (saw Hank and ate Mexican Food) to go take in the Dodger's game Sunday afternoon. Verdict? It's surreal to be critiquing the whole stadium experience when neither of us are fans - but the game was amusing. Dodgers won - but we left early due to teh Stoopid - just as two idiots decided to storm the field and we got a first hand look at stadium security Taking Care Of Business on the field. That - was entertaining.
And I got my bukkit.
Flying back home again after, I had a chance to sit down for about an hour before Jim got home - and we went over to
caitlin's old abode to put the finishing touches on her move to Moline today. It was a classic panic move situation, but we had too many old hands on deck for things to get too awful.
And we fed the troops. (God, there was a lot of food this weekend.) And made the acquaintance of more LJ people who will likely get added in due course.
I've gotten a text message from Caitlin already - I think I'll be sending one this afternoon. Boy, we're going to miss her - but this is just what we've been hoping for. I'm sure everything will be okay - no matter what. That's the magic, and I'm sticking to it.
Came home and pasted the landing.
Final Score: I WIN.
