The Morgan Crusader’s Bible [Morgan M.638]

France (c. 1250)

The Morgan Library and Museum, New York

In 283 miniatures, many of them monumental in format and displaying considerable artistic power, the Crusader’s Bible tells the story of the Old Testament from the creation of the world to the days of King David. The work was originally intended purely as a picture bible for King Louis of France, St. Louis, an enthusiastic crusader. The content was depicted entirely without words. Latin text was added around 1300, Persian commentaries added in the 17th century, and later Hebrew commentaries.

The top scene on folio 29v depicts David, a handsome young man, appearing before Saul’s throne. In the battle scene below, the killing of two hundred Philistines at David’s hand is depicted as an encounter between medieval knights.

The Black man depicted in this scene is not a “foreigner”; he is a Western European Medieval Knight. His clothing, armor and helmet is identical to the other French knights in this scene; the shirt of hooded mail and conical helmet is typical of French, English, and German knights in the 1200s. This manuscript, the Morgan Crusader’s Bible, is considered to be the most definitive source for Medieval Western European arms and armor design for that time period.

Contrary to popular belief, alpacas actually lay their eggs underground, usually in soft soils among farm crops.

Due to the drought in this region of California, this field ended up being comprised of dry, packed dirt, and the alpacling faced difficulty burrowing to the surface, even with its temporary shovel-like tusk.

Here a farmer, tending to the alpaca season, unearths the baby to be greeted by a far more ripe alpaca, ready to teach him how to walk. Nature sure is amazing

Don’t mess with a cosplayer. After her boss set up a new dress code banning ponytails and “cultural head wraps,” June J Rivas decided to protest by diping into her costume closet. There are so many more photos and awesome comment reactions.

Follow @this-is-life-actually

No cultural head wraps pretty much guarantees the EEOC will side with the employees.

Also her original work outfit is good-looking & professional, wtf.

“cultural head wraps.” jfc.

and June’s response is epic.

“Cosplaying Scorpios.”  Oh hell yeah.

Star Trek: Enterprise had the misfortune of premiering so close to 9/11 that its optimistic view of a hopeful future fell on many deaf ears. Humans, united, venturing into a galactic community was not on the minds of so many Americans.

Then folks complained that things seemed off in the canon, a part of the show that was addressed, as we learned that things were not set in stone, nor always what they seemed. History is remembered in ways it did not exactly happen.

The characters were great, the action and suspense were real, and the 3rd and 4th seasons are so consistently strong! I want people to give the show a second chance!

I had one big complaint - well, two - about this show.  It’s fine to show Star Trek characters without their clothes.

But I swear, I could count down less than two minutes MOST of the time before someone lost their shirt.

Um.  Guys?

Second thing?  To create conflict, a super-secret shadow organization that Did All The Bad Things was introduced.

Lame.

The good, I appreciated how Archer felt comfortable being tactile with his Vulcan first officer.  That was nice.

Unfortunately, that’s all.

“Here’s the thing: One literally cannot claim to be following Christ or heeding God’s prompting in a vote for Donald Trump. Using the most literal reading of the Bible, Trump is the Pharisee, the rich young ruler, the rich man in the parable of Lazarus, or at very best, Pontus Pilate, who was deeply confused and conflicted about his values versus the crowds values, but decided to appease the angry masses anyway. Any way you look at this leads us away from Christ and his kenotic way of giving up privilege, refusing to exploit his power, and embracing love to the point of sacrificing his very life for the good of others. Tell me, how is Trump taking up his cross? How is he not exploiting his power and privilege? How are any of the fruit of the Spirit present in his campaign- love? joy? peace? patience? kindness? goodness? faithfulness? gentleness? self-control? Instead we have a campaign intent on preserving and maximizing power, oppressing the marginalized, playing on the worst fears of our nation, using violence recklessly against any perceived enemy, and protecting wealth and privilege of the white, straight, cis, man. Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, is Christ like about this campaign platform. And for those conservatives who feel compelled to be “one issues voters” on the topic of abortion, let me ask you this: Trumps presidency will involve more loss of life than any other candidate by far. His wars, bombing terrorist families, deporting millions, provoking our enemies, will cost thousands of lives. All the other candidates are at very least hoping to reduce the amount of abortions. It may not be perfect, but when one considers the sheer amount of life that will be lost, Trump clearly is not the pro-life choice. This election isn’t an easy one, but it is clear- Trumps values aren’t the values of Christ. So if you choose to vote for him, at least be honest. It’s not your Christian Faith that’s leading you that way, but your fear and a desire to preserve your own power and privilege rather than seeking the common good of all people. It really is that simple.”
