[livejournal.com profile] solidkz, you are going to have to tell me if this is good or not. I'm Swiss - and therefore neutral on deciding what another country does with it's citizens. Attack me and die, however.

Japan is sending troops to Iraq.

Guess all that subbed anime IS going to come in handy, neh?

Refraining from more snarkiness. This whole thing makes me ill. Since April.

I feel the same way about this as I do about German Troops being used in the Balkans. I'm a little uneasy about it, but so long as it's part of a multinational coalition, I can get over that.

..

No, maybe not. This is a deeper issue than just simply the Japanese deploying troops for the first time in 60 years. On THAT note, I have no issues with this whatsoever, The Japanese have more than paid the price for their imperialism(Moreso than the Germans. Well, debateably, yeah yeah, reparations and all of that, but as a culture and a civilization they are disciplined enough to deal with the modern world according to the modern standard, we shouldn't continue to punish them for their actions early last century) and they are one of our staunchest allies. They are also not going offensive anywhere, nor would they do anything to risk their political situation with us or with most of the rest of the world.

IMO, they're stepping up to the plate to back us when few others will and as a soldier, I for one greatly appreciate that.

The deployment of troops doesn't bother me. The reprecusions back home of their deploying troops and the reprecusions from China and North Korea of their deploying troops has the potential to bother me deeply.

Umm. While I'm neutral on the concept on a superficial level, the timing scares the crap out of me.

North Korea is getting more and more insane - Japan has been righteously nervous, but has also mentioned the possibility of 'preemptive strikes' against North Korea. This has a certain scent of 'practice run' to me, and I'd not be at all surprised if Kim Jong had apoplexy over it.

Eek.

On the one hand... maybe they'll manage to get more actual REBUILDING done... or maybe not.

Wonder if they actually have a real plan....
