Bill and Ted's Excellent Phone Jack & Wiring job has a problem. Megapath and Covad have isolated it to the inside wiring on the phone side.

FIND an inside wiring contractor, I dare you.

I did - they're even in Torrance. Bonus.

$70 an hour, per man, plus trip charge and parts.

For that kind of money, I could bring both Rey and Carolyn back down here to fix the jacks. Or whatever it is.

Bah.

Phone wiring basics are pretty darn easy, actually. You're easily a smart enough cookie to figure it out, with a handy little booklet from Radio Shack. I fixed half my houses' inside wiring by the time I was 16. Go spend $70 at Radio Shack on some testing bits and a good book and you (and hubby) can probably figure it out all on your ownsome. (I did most of my repair work with some spare phone cable and a Swiss Army knife. You probably already have better tools than these.)

You can do it

You can buy bulk comm cable and a cable puller line at the hardware store. All a phone line needs is green and red, and most phone cable has 4 wires so you can have two phone lines. If you know where the phone line comes into the house, you can even run the modem it's own line, straight from the junction box.

you mean...

you didn't get the inside wiring plan from the phone company? Yeah, I know it's a scam but at least once a year I need something done and I just call 'em up and have them come and run the wire I need. I pay less in charges for the plan each month than the actual wiring jobs would have cost.
