And that's why the lady is a bitch
Jun. 10th, 2002 04:46 pmWelcome to the Alpha Female pissing contest.
It's me against the rep from the management company.
I've:
Called more than once to report the problem.
Called my own insurance carrier and filed a claim.
Called three contractors to get bids on repairing the damage.
Spent two nights in a hotel at my own expense, will spend three more by the reconstruction company's estimate.
Showed my house to the President of the Homeowner's Board with much grinching and growling. Somebody besides me needed to see this.
Made at least three phone calls to all the parties concerned, and one to my real estate agent.
Hung up on the management company rep when she wanted to tell me how "she wasn't going to go into it with me," regarding how they were not going to submit a claim with the master policy for structural damage. (Her idea was going to be to go ask the homeowner who caused the problem to pay for it all - after they did it and tried to get away with it by not telling anyone. As if.)
Called the agent of the company the master policy is written with and told him my side of story.
(Frankly, this is chump change .. maybe $1000 worth, at best.)
Called three contractors and asked them to come by and make bids on Thursday morning when Allstate is coming by to see What The House Looks Like.
Downloaded the complaint form and began filling it out.
Lo and behold, after lunch, the contractor the management company sent out on Saturday told me they've been given the contract to repair the place.
I win.
The house should be on the market by Anime Expo.
Winner of the "Adding Insult to Injury" Award - my dear beloved Love - who was so concerned about not hitting me leaving the house yesterday, he misjudged the turn radius on the station wagon vs. the post holding the carport up and *crunch.*
Yet another insurance claim.
And I hereby nominate myself for "Suckah!" - the insurance lady wants to know how much food normally costs...and I tell her the truth. NOW, to get reimbursed for having to eat every single meal outside of the house, we have to eat sushi or Kobe beef every meal to get reimbursed for any of it because they only cover anything above and beyond normal expenses.
Truth - I don't mind. Honest is nice. And an insurance claim shouldn't be a junket ride.
Here's the original, sent to all the local family who have email addys:
The invitation was waiting at my desk this morning - the company is going to throw the summer family picnic this year on June 15th at Mother's Beach in Marina Del Rey.
This is a major goodie alert.
Am opening this up to family first - there has been no limit to how many family members I can bring (do I work for a great company or what?), I just need to give them a number.
Do not have email information for L or S. Should the Redding contingent wish to make an appearence, they are invited as well -- please pass the information along.
Let me know. In the past, this has been a whole lot of fun - ask me about the last one!
Keep in mind, I haven't heard a thing from Sis in weeks....WEEKS. She's had two emergency surgeries, been in bed recovering from the last one...and this is what I do get when she does call:
Oh Wondrous Maker of Really Popular Shoes-Thanks for the invite-even with
the eye stuff I'd send D and/or E .....But, E is having
her birthday party that day a eleven am at (sigh) Chuckie Cheese -why so
early? Because we will be camping north of Malibu the following weekend. So Sorry. I am very sorry about the water leak. Was the plumber able to
assess the problem and are you and Jim doing alright?? Let me know, the B's are moving this week and I'm am very sad...I see the pathologist from USC on Thursday and aside from the pain I think I'm doing well-gotta go. love D
For the sake of argument, I can simply take this at face value (and an attempt at light-heartedness) and ignore a couple of things.
Ignoring has not been my strong point today. *sigh* Oh, well --
"Y'know, if it hurts, I can come hold your hand a while...you've held mine enough times."
"Why are you trying so hard to make nice-nice for everyone when you've barely got enough for yourself?"
"Why do you expect me to think everything is fine just because you say it is? I hate being lied to and you're terrible at it, you beast."
Of course, I'm not going to say those things...that's what this thing is for.
I'm likely going to acknowledge receipt of it tomorrow with an update on the house...all very surface stuff, nothing threatening on the boundary front. But notice how it's perfectly okay to know about this house thing...and be concerned...but woe if I give a damn about her!
Can I get off now?
