Say something....
Apr. 1st, 2003 01:07 pmSo I went looking. So I found something. Something too old...
Madonna wimped out. So I went to see if Barry Manilow had anything to say.
He's got "Let Freedom Ring" back up on the website - but it's accompanied by a tiny picture, as opposed to the one that filled the entire frame after September 11th.
And this message is still up.
I remember he closed the show last summer in Irvine with that song, and left the stage - usually he comes back on for as many encores as the audience can get out of him (and in Los Angeles, that's at least three) - but last year, it was firm. THAT song closes the show, baby.
I wish I had a rip of the song he closed his Broadway show with - a cover of an old spiritual, heaven knows what the title is - "There will be peace...and understanding...someday. There will be birds flying higher, in a sky, more blue - "
Long before. Years before.
He showed up at that emergency Democrat fund-raiser where Barbra Streisand sang and made a fool of herself. I note she's keeping her mouth shut, too.
That song was written for the rededication of the Statue of Liberty after its refurbishment.
