In July, President Bush issued an executive order making 15,000 foreign nationals in the military -- about half the total at the time -- immediately eligible to apply for citizenship instead of having to wait the customary three years. Included were all those serving during the Sept. 11 attacks.

The whole article is a trip. Why did I google this?

"I do feel proud because not just anyone gives up their life for another country," Engracia Clarin, 32, told reporters in Guatemala. "But at the same time it makes me sad because he fought for something that wasn't his."

I'm trying to find a link that the boss found. Two of the fatalities of this war (so far) have been green-card holders. Of course, once they're dead, the Bush administration is granting them citizenship immediately. Of course. How lovely of them.

I'm sorry. The gallows humor just won't kick in fast enough anymore.
