Germans are still being harassed over WWII. I've talked to people who lived through that and have heard stories of dissent and fear with no blame to the jewish people. I've talked to people who were born since then and they distance themselves as much as possible. They feel about holocaust how white people feel about slavery, and how many Americans feel about the war. In turn, Americans are just as harassed about the war as white people are still harassed about slavery and Germans are still harassed about the holocaust.

The only difference is that the war is still going on... and the situation is getting worse. Likewise, the harassment and ignorance that fuels is will still go on and get worse.

Traveler's Tip: Unless forced to show your passport, claim you're Canadian. It used to be a joke. Now, it's the safest way to move about the world.

I've been living in Austria for about three and a half months now, and I've never had to pull the "I'm Canadian" bit. What I do instead is go "but I hate Bush" and all is OK.
