As I watch the DVDs of X:The Television Series, looking at the lovely locations they drew in, spot on (I know, I've seen them now) - I can't wait to go back.

I wonder how wigged out people over here would be if an armageddon piece like X was drawn in, say, Los Angeles.

Starsky & Hutch, anyone? Honest, I could do tours. This location, that location - really ought to go see if Venice Place is still there - Rosie Malone park is just outside of Spelling's Folly mansion.

Helps to have been with Connie Faddis' crew back in the late seventies. And Diane Barbour. Those were the days. Backwards, uphill in a sandstorm days.

But so many anime pieces are drawn in Tokyo - and I'm here to tell you, none of it is generic. You could go find those places right now.

They're using footage shot in the subway as bumpers for Wolfs Rain. Homesick, I tell you.

I chimed in, asking [livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar for a reading - you have to enjoy getting a card from her deck, she designed it herself - I asked for a card for the balance of this year, with all the international travel I've booked into it. Here's the response:

Your card today is the Meadow, [livejournal.com profile] kyburg. It is the card of
wilderness, of things left to grow on their own. Its opposite is the
Orchard, the plants cultivated by man to do exactly what man requires.
You walk into an orchard knowing you will find oranges, or apples, and
exactly where to get them.

You walk into a Meadow never quite knowing what you'll find. There might
be herbs growing rampant in a corner. There might be onions if you dig,
or carrots. There are flowers, perhaps... or berries or fruit, or just
daisies to string into a crown for your head. The Meadow is an
adventurous card, and calls you to be on your toes, to be ready to search
and find whatever needs finding... even if all you end up with is a
pleasant nap in the sun, cushioned by grasses.

Meadow muffins. I'm going to find meadow muffins. Just my luck. *face palms*

The first of the piano music got here today - I can't wait for the thing to get tuned and finished. Though I'm sure lessons and much work is in my future - this is one thing I'm fairly certain I will get something back for trying.

Oh, and the Del Rey manga releases arrived today as well - compared to the job Viz, Tokyo Pop and others have done recently with basic design of their covers and handling of the interiors, there really is nothing like Del Rey to show everyone up. Viz used to do a dignified, if expensive job on their books. The Del Rey editions have wraparound cover art, are nicely bound and someone used a brain choosing fonts. They're nice. I'm looking forward to more.

Bored. I don't wanna go to sleep right and I can't think of anything I want to do to stay awake. Jim's at work - and the neighborhood is quiet right now.

Oh hells. There's PuzzleFighter. That ought to do it.

Well, Big O was basically a post-apocalyptic piece set in New York City...

Did they actually say New York? I always thought it was Cleveland - like Batman's Gotham City was Cleveland....

I dig some of the weirdest stuff some times....

Grand Central Terminal. The Hudson River. JFK-Mark airport. The double-wide subway system under the entire city. "Islesberry." The city itself being on an island roughly the same shape as Manhattan. The suspension bridges.

I could go on. Being natively from that area, there are a plethora of unmistakable signs. There is no doubt that the city design is New York.

And there is nothing like a native. Cool beans - there's something else to look at. Gee, I have to watch Big O all over again - pity. *cackles*

huh. what do you think of that NBC mini-series, 10.5, about the entire west coast falling into the ocean?

i cannot believe that they actually made a TV movie about such an horrific event.

I swear, hearing the West Coast is going to fall into the ocean turns to BLAH BLAH BLAH BLARG - I've heard it since I was a wee one.

The New Madrid fault - that should scare you. Google it.

heh. heh, i grew up in the san fernando valley and lived through a few quakes (70's) that destroyed freeways. then of course, there was the epic '89 quake in SF.... that was a humdinger.

BUT the missouri fault - NOW THAT is something i would like to see blow. we'd be having beachfront property here in CO. ;-)

Missouri? Hmm. Will have to look that up.

No, New Madrid provides all sorts of amusement - the San Andreas is a piker in comparison. Last time it went, the Mississippi ran backwards for three days.

It used to have a French cafe downstairs, and last I heard, a couple of stabbings (no kidding).

I really should go and see if it's even still standing....
