A man parked his truck on a country road outside Turlock on Saturday night, removed a baby boy from a car seat and then beat the child to death in the street, fighting off passers-by who tried to stop him, until he was gunned down by a police officer whose helicopter landed in a nearby pasture, police said Sunday.

The 27-year-old suspect, who lived in Turlock (Stanislaus County), died almost immediately where he fell. The child, who according to police appeared to be 12 to 24 months old, was taken to a hospital but died before arrival.

I'm going to remind you...very very gently...what a major contributing factor might be in that geographical district. But. You ignore the demographics of child abuse - and the factors that cause it to escalate - and this kind of thing WILL come.

Largest cause of death in pregnant women is homicide.

Larges section of our population that murders - males in their twenties and low thirties, highest by percentage are white.

Happy fucking Father's Day. This guy reminds me of the twerp who stole a tank in San Diego...and had to be shot point-blank by an officer standing on the tank itself to be stopped. After cutting a swath on freeways, surface streets frightening in scope. Just...would...not...stop.

Don't classify and discard. Examine. There's plenty of people who are lazy enough to do just that - and make it impossible for decent people to have normal lives. Resist.

Another thing that comes to mind is allowing your mind to come up with strategies if this crosses your path.

I can think of a lot of uses for a fire extinguisher, for example. I don't think I would have risked the Maglite - anything he could take away from me, would have been used against me.

In other news, A Missouri woman accused of taking part in a MySpace hoax that ended with a 13-year-old girl's suicide has so far avoided state charges - but not federal ones.

Lori Drew, 49, a neighbor of the dead teen, was to make an appearance in federal court here Monday, accused of one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to get information used to inflict emotional distress.

The charges were filed in California where MySpace is based. MySpace is a subsidiary of Beverly Hills-based Fox Interactive Media Inc., which is owned by News Corp.

Wish I'd known. I'd have showed up. You better believe it.
