Well, better than not at all, I guess.

Sis held The Baby Shower last Saturday afternoon - it requires title case, because she had this on the books for months, and frankly it showed. She had this planned, folks.

The fact that two thirds of the guest list evaporated three weeks prior when I left prior gig notwithstanding. Good thing I hadn't given out the invitations yet - that would have made messy and painful just about unbearable. (I'm still working folks to LinkedIn.com - you want to add me, just ask.)

The centerpiece of this shower was this incredible cake. It was a dragon cake, and I don't mean a sheet cake with a dragon on it. Sis had found a bakery that built them a dragon out of red velvet cake, buttercream frosting and covered him in a molding chocolate skin. Head and paws were made out of rice krispy treats. HUGE CAKE. He would have fed a hundred, easily.

We had less than thirty people, total. Getting this cake to where people were that could consume him is a story in and of itself. He was, in a word, delicious.

[livejournal.com profile] silverkun and [livejournal.com profile] purrplexitty came down for the weekend to attend (THANK YOU). (Matter of fact, I'm listening to the music from the mass trade we did over the weekend right now. Gorillaz and Insane Clown Posse, yo. I am much amused.)

Sis did, instead of a gift table, a "Parent's Pinata" that people were encouraged to toss money into, with the idea that "change is good" and we need the funds to help defray the costs of traveling to Taiwan. I think we cleared about $700 out of that, and there were additional gifts that I brought along (anyone who sent things from the Amazon wishlist? Right. We just opened them.), plus [livejournal.com profile] catsonmars stopped off and got the most awesome Mach 5 for he and his Mom to give the boy.

Sis served us all pretty good Chinese takeout chow, and while we did a decent mingling job - and in all honesty, there were enough people to keep me VERY busy - [livejournal.com profile] snobahr and [livejournal.com profile] chronovirus were there, sans Boyzilla, but I have to note this, as this is a journal after all...folks, there is nothing much more of a psychic disconnect at your own baby shower, it's knowing you are at your own baby shower...on your period. I swear, every time something VERY kid-related has been going on? You got it.

I'm still working on getting thank you cards out (I am terrible at getting those kinds of things done, blame the fact I could never AFFORD the cards, let alone mail them), but the week has been busy...and life is going to get busier, which reminds me.

Time to help Jim wash the cars. See ya!
