Advent - Day 4
Dec. 4th, 2008 08:51 amYou know the best Christmas presents are homemade. (Well, except for a wii, but let's not go there.)
It doesn't have to be edible.
And doesn't have to be made with crayons and paper. (Although you could....)
...and maybe, it was just new once before. It'll just be new to you now.
It's not like you're going to find scenic Nippon ceramics at Target:

(And you don't have to go to eBay for everything. Ask Jim. I found a BUNCH of this stuff in junk stores in Berea, KY. Multiple times.)
This place is full of making new things out of old ones. They've got someone making stuffed animals out of old sweaters, for example.
GO THRIFT STORE SHOPPING.
Goodwill. That's one. You go Google it and you'll find others.
Best way is on foot, locally of course and here's a good way to find some new places to try.
Thrifting helps in a lot of ways - it rehomes items, reduces the need to make more of them, assists organizations that provide services to others (like this group that sells re-crafted items to raise funds for housing) and satisfies the need for 'new things,' and at least for me - tickles my curious mind. These things are not like the others...wow.
Go forth and be creative - see you tomorrow!
