Rabbit, rabbit. August is over and we survived. I can't say as much for many of my friends or neighbors. It's even too hot to light a candle or the good stuff right now.

I think I might bring the humidifier back out for the kid's room at night - it's hot, dry and smokey, and he's coughing in his sleep. Poor kid.

As soon as I find a way, I'm going to be taking that Freecycle special up to this place and get an education on refurbishing it. Then tune up the one [livejournal.com profile] n6vfp gave Jim, and see what can be done about actually using them. I think the first thing might be car racks, just to get them to and from, neh?

And find a suitable distraction for kiddo during. I know I wanted to start Kumon for him - and now he is 4, it might be time to do so. Swim classes are done - and before I decide to do another set (we might not get them in before they close for the season 10/1), I'm wondering if we need to transition to this first.

You heard 'Disney takes Marvel' - I heard Stan Lee croak 'I'm old and I don't want to Ackerman my characters!' Disney is a very stable place to park your properties, and has a long history of taking good care - they just do it Their Way, and that's that.

That said, the sooner Wolverine shows up in Kingdom Hearts, the better. Kitty Pride, double ditto. Jean Grey - stay dead, thanks. No, really. (Recast Tidus as Spiderman. Right.)

I've heard about Arkham Asylum. It's on either Xbox or PS3, two platforms that don't exist in my house and won't. Bugger. (Jim would LOVE it. Me, not so much.)

It also occurs to me to mention that there are two movies out and promoted rather heavily with the word 'Wife' in them. Consider for a moment just how inane and boring a movie substituting the word 'Husband' would be and you have my basic impression. OOOOH a movie about someone else's WIFEY. *slaps* (Cripes, do I need to be reminded that there needed to be a COMMANDMENT about this shit?) No, I have no interest in seeing either. Tell me something else about the character aside from her marital status, please. Thanks.

(Not far enough by half, and nobody's baby. Rar.)

You want something good. Go get this. It's Good. No, really. It's [livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire's book, 'Rosemary and Rue?' Yeah. Reviews coming in from everywhere - I think I may romp through my copy when it arrives (and that might be on the drive home tonight instead of waiting for the mails) or try to make it last like a really good bar of chocolate. Well, you know how that ends.

What she isn't making a lot of noise about? the follow on book to R & R is already up for pre-order and you can order both of them right now! Come on, you wanna. Really you do.

I'm not surprised this is a good as it is - Seanan writes. Often, constantly, irrepressibly. She loves doing it so much, she even has a passion for intricately patterned poetry that just blows me away. It may take some time, but she's been known to ask her FL for prompts and then deliver hundreds of pieces, just for the kicks and fun of it. She not only can conceive and craft a story, she has the legs to beat the living crap out of it in rewrites until it's done, and done well. She also has a taste for her own people, worlds and the underpinnings of life around her - she does not walk through this world with blinders on. How much can she do? She's still considering getting the kitty her own Twitter account, on top of the wordcount she puts out here, there, here again, and to her publisher. Oh, and under two names as well. She's a busy girl.

She reeled me in years ago right here on LJ writing about Nair in anticipating of a Baycon. You do that, you can do just about anything you set your cap for. Congrats - and support a fellow blonde, get these books. PSA over.

I'm nowhere near the fires. I'm near the ocean, which right now has the only passable air in Los Angeles. We are still coughing in our sleep, and tracking ashes everywhere.

Tonight is crockpot lamb stew. I'm thinking of some soda bread when I get home to go with it.
