Mother Duckie Working Hard -
Aug. 11th, 2004 02:29 pmI so terribly need to tell some people to get stuffed. Or will tell them to get stuffed. Or maybe "get stuffed" is going to turn into a catchphrase...real soon.
Got most of the "group" critical tasks complete yesterday - but not all of them, which means we still have work to do.
There is a trip to IKEA in my future.
And the "who told what to whom" games are already tuning up as my family circles the wagons....*face palms.*
I have some baggage coming into this, of course.
I've never dealt with kidney disease as a result of anything but diabetes, but I'm plenty familiar with measuring kidney function as a whole. This diagnosis answers some questions - Mom's function had been getting dickey for about nine months now. She's been managing her prescription meds more closely - it was actually this cancer doing the damage.
This is the second time we've attributed a change due to her age, and it actually had a real, treatable cause. The first time, it was cardiac occlusion - and she ended up with a heart attack. *sighs*
I lost a spouse after five years of chronic, disabling illness. I really don't want to do that again.
Also, if anyone hasn't seen Mom's Cancer, you should. I'm sure I'll be sharing the link a lot more in the next couple of weeks.
I'm okay. I'm sure everything is going to be all right.
Oh, and if that doesn't suit you - get stuffed.
I need an icon.

Date: 2004-08-11 03:41 pm (UTC)I'm going through a family crisis too, right now--*not* illness, thank goodness--but something I'd hoped wouldn't ever happen again and which promises to cause lots of chaos, disruption, and misery, so I feel for ya.

Date: 2004-08-11 09:54 pm (UTC)From what little I've got - the only real risk is losing parts of the bladder - in most cases, you don't even do that.
There are virulent, aggressive forms of bladder cancer - but this one shows no signs of being any of them. I'd rate the odds of this being life threatening at less than 25% - and that's being generous. Most of the literature is 2 - 10% of all cases.
Holding onto that - I'd like to see Mom turn 80.
