kyburg: (GET STUFFED)

Swift boat veterans offer opinions about John Kerry.
Check the graphic. Narsty.

Some people really need stuffing. No...no cornbread jokes. Not right now.

Cornbread's too abrasive anyway. Some pure, homemade whole wheat bread might be just the ticket!

"Human Badinage," eh? That is the first time I have ever seen that word in print outside the National Spelling Bee word lists. How does the phrase tie into your screen name ([livejournal.com profile] oblomova)?

It doesn't, really Oblomova came from Ivan Goncharov's novel "Oblomov," about a guy who has trouble getting out of bed and into the world. Which is pretty much the story of my life. So I feminized it. But I like Somerset Maugham as well, so maybe that influenced the pun.

Turkey baster full of hot wine?

How sad. I really feel bad for Kerry having to find out that his fellow vets would shaft him like that for - what, money?

I'm afraid to even mention it to my dad the Vietnam vet. Losing his temper's not good for him.

Moveon.org had their say... not these Swift Boat Guys have their say.

Either you allow ALL independent political speech or allow none. Which would you prefer?

There's free speech, and then there's lying and calling it free speech.

I think this whole thing falls into the latter, doesn't it?

You denouce both, or denouce neither.

There is always 3 sides to an issue, yours, mine and the truth... And this whole Swift Boat thing is indicative of this. If its a falsehood, then 60 guys are all getting the same lie together.

I have a feeling the Kerry campaign is trying to make it look as good as possible. These swiftboat guys are trying to make it look as bad as possible. What really happened is somewhere in the middle.

It's apples and oranges. "Free speech" allows for an opinion. Telling a lie is breaking a commandment.

There's a difference.

*chuckle* Then both sides are breaking commandments. SHOCKER!

To think either side is innocent in any of this, is to be wearing blinders.

Okay. Thought about this three times - but fair's fair and it's my living room you're standing in, bub.

Just what part of this hasn't been cleared up by the military record? Because there must be something you've heard that I haven't -

(And I just love that there are military records up the ass over this - when they couldn't verify Bush's service record for squat.)

I never said they didn't have the right to speak. But they've got the right not to be lying shits who sold out for money, and the folks in the Republican party have the right to also stand up and say they don't approve of the lies.

Did you read the chart?

Date: 2004-08-21 05:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] snackpants.livejournal.com
Yeah I read the chart, and private citizens have the right to fund whatever speech they want to. Have you seen the primary funding groups and individuals of Moveon.org?

Again, if you ban one, you must ban all. The rules apply to all or they apply to none.

one more time, mister I-don't-listen:

I didn't say squat about banning. I said they're liars.

Well gee golly... And they are saying he's a liar... so either both are liars or neither are... I am voting for the former.
