octal is in Iraq. He's one of those "contractors" you hear about - and he's there to rebuild communications infrastructure - in other words, a hooge geek.

It's interesting that the whole gate system is basically bypassed if you look white, speak American english, and have a plastic smartcard with some black printing on it hanging from your neck.

He then tells of dealing with the military, which I found of interest.
