"You have to ignore most of what goes on at conventions."

But this begs the question - what if they're serious?

Tee HeeHEE Don't Look!

Forget it. This insults anyone who has served our country in the military.

Ask any veteran if they want a box of these "band-aids." I mean, really.

What the heck is with those bandages? Seriously, I can't see how anyone thought they were in good taste.

The bandages were to make fun of Kerry's three purple hearts.

It's not funny. Nobody's Purple Heart is funny.

Actually, I think it was to make fun of the one for which the wound was treated with a similar adhesive bandage.

However, the purple heart bandages were a far cry from being in good taste. There are plenty of legitimate things about Kerry to mock for someone opposed to his political positions and opportunism. This stuff is understandably offensive.

But hey, it's politics.

Even so, it seems to me that you're just asking to piss off vets.

I have my grandfather's Purple Heart, which he earned on Normandy beach. Fuckers.

Well, if it angers people, then maybe they will get out and vote. I hate how people bitch and complain and yet they don't vote to change it... they have no excuses.

That's just the point - it was a convention-floor "wink-wink/nod-nod - ain't we cute to think of this?" stunt.

You can't vote callousness out of delegates. I'm sorry.

Those bandage things mocking the Purple heart really, truly, and deeply offended me.

Imagine the uproar if the Dems had used their convention to highlight Laura Bush's past record of vehicular manslaughter (okay, she wasn't charged with that, but she did kill a high school friend while she was driving). Tragic? Of course. But if they had offered up Laura Bush Driver's Ed manuals or something equally disgusting at the DNC, there would have been unending outrage.

But if that had been Hillary Clinton's history, the GOP wouldn't have treated it as a tragic mistake of youth that one shouldn't bring up. And I'm talking BEFORE she ran for public office. It would have been treated like another goddamn Chappaquiddick. These people are evil, mean, awful soulless cretins and creeps. No wonder they can't understand why we're losing the war in Iraq. The boys in charge now all stayed as far away from combat as possible when they really had the chance to fight for what they supposedly believe in (they were "girly-men," if you will. Not that you should.) How can they possibly understand the mindset of people who are actually willing to die for a cause, to die in order to free their country from occupying forces, when they don't believe in anything except their "god given" right to get rich without actually having to make any sacrifices.

If there is a hell, I hope there are extra-spikey spits on which these bastards are suspended for all eternity.

Sorry 'bout that. I've been exceptionally angry and depressed and alienated by what's been going on these past few years, and this week brought it to a fever pitch.

It continues to boggle me that the Republicans are doing things which call attention to Kerry's war record, whether you want to believe said record is good or bad. Don't they realize that EVERY TIME THEY BRING THIS UP, they also remind people that Kerry went to Vietnam, while Bush ducked and dodged and went AWOL instead? It's like watching them shoot themselves in the foot... over and over and over again.
