Sep. 12th, 2004 07:02 amFergitaboutit. I braised my brains in 100% humidity and over 90 degrees indoors heat yesterday.
Yes, on one of the hottest days of the year, I was putting up jam. All of the recipes required constant stirring - for over an hour and a half. Three batches - peach-cantaloupe, grapefruit, melon and ginger and cantaloupe butter. The butter recipe is likely the winner, except for its low-output to labor ratio. One and a half hours of constant stirring, since it's thickening agent was simple reduction - for one pint. D'oh!
Today, veggies. But first -
shadesong, not to poke at something sensitive, but did you did you hear about this? You can't get insurance coverage to pay for this stuff in the US anymore, so they offshored it - amazing. With rather predictable results.
I'm there.
Screw you Atkins! Screw you right in the baugette! Went back to the farmer's market yesterday and got more. *flips finger in Atkin's general direction - you decide which.*
Then I made bologna sandwiches. Oh, the humanity!

Here, too.
I won't do Doonesbury's, but I'll link to it.
That one's going on the wall of my office.
QOTD: "The Past Is A Classroom, Not A Living Room"
I'm still waiting to be gifted with my own Tarot deck. Just saying.
Oooh,
ceolyn - Reader's supplies! Not books, but things to make reading neater and tidier - could we do any better for ourselves? Happy? Make a registry there? (Hey, if you want to help out another Lj'er,
kieron works there. Use 4B13 as a code if you order something.)
cryptome has come up with WMD - Weapons of Mass Delusion.
"People think to forgive means to say everything is forgotten, everything is the way it was before. What forgive really means is that I'm opening my heart but I now know I don't want you over to my house for potato salad anymore. I've learned my lesson there. But I wish you well, I don't wish you harm, and it's not my responsibility to change you."

I like that one, too
mactavish.
8:39 - 74 degrees and rising. Time to go fry myself in the kitchen again - but first, this time I'm fetching the GOOD fan from the closet. *face smacks* The one the painters use to dry walls - that'll blow off some steam!
What a world....

Date: 2004-09-12 09:56 am (UTC)I'm sure many people on Atkins have thought the same thing at times.
My wife and I both cracked up at that foxtrot strip this morning :-)

(I love going to one of the two great Mexican food places in SF, El Farolito or La Cumbre, to get aguas frescas. When they do canteloupe, it tastes like someone pureed a super-ripe canteloupe and added a little sugar.)
