980. Previous button goes no higher -

And I am certain I didn't get through all the posts over the weekend - so if you have something you want me to see, you are encouraged to tell me. I am glad I made the effort to get through as many as I could though - Crystal, holy fucking crap, CRYSTAL - ahem, adolescent LJ female moment over with - but I am so glad to be home.

I wanted to go home at 5:30 PM Saturday. I looked at the clock.

Upside - it was neat meeting my mother's cousins - one on her father's side, one on her mother's side - both older than she is. One is going to be 90 next week! He could pass for 60 - no kidding. Still works as a landscaper and the yard that man keeps up is impeccable. I plan to send a thank you note - I have to get the bread and butter pickle recipe from him wife. So good - but she doesn't do it anymore, it's too much work. But I get an inkling that it's still a maybe -

Downside - My uncle is a drunk old poot. And I totally baffled him when I told him I was Green - he couldn't decide it that was "safe" or not - but since I didn't argue with him (or rise to the "liberal" baiting - score one for me, I'm not stupid) - he couldn't decide. He's brought my mother - my very Republican mother - to tears with his ranting and raving, and I was charged quitely soundly with not letting That Happen while she was visiting her sister.

Who thinks Bill O'Reilly is getting a raw deal. *rolls eyes* Thank God for deer, birds and wellhouses. And grandchildren who go missing on camping outings. Well, not very missing. Just 17 and didn't check in.

No, it didn't happen.

But I was not amused. Having to share space with the Fox network for more than twenty minutes tends to make me cranky. Actually, I saw more television over the weekend than I had in a long time. I think most folks have noticed the massive spin cycle everything is in right now - and if I'm sick of it, I can imagine how fed up anyone who watches it for very long must be.

I found a cybercafe on Sunday morning. Part of a kick-ass bakery that had collection boxes for Habitat for Humanity, the local food bank and UNICEF. It was doing a very brisk business with folks older than Mom, her sister or her husband.

I also got to see my friend Dianne in her new house, complete with cats.

And I shot many hours of videotape.

Mom came through it like a champ - I really think she's more durable than everyone gives her credit for. When we parted last night, I said as much to her. "If you can get through the last three days, I think you could do anything."

She's really worried about the bladder surgery - but I can't help but think she'll be fine.

I really missed Jim. And my life. When we got in last night, we decided to go get dinner before getting to Sis' house - and we went back to the old sushi bar in the old neighborhood. *sighs*

The Peeps folks have made a new Peeps for Halloween. Orange pumpkins stuffed with chocolate - found then at the Dollar Store. I'll let you know if they're edible.

Oh, and I brought home 16 quart canning jars. Therein hangs a tale....

Are Peeps ever edible?

The first Peep is always edible. The second is slightly less so. The third seems like chewing styrofoam, and the fourth... Well, that's why they started microwaving them to watch them explode.
