For some reason, I don’t know, Youtube put a Reacts video on my front page about teens reacting to 2000s anime and when Digimon came up they were all like “Oh knockoff pokemon!” URGH and that’s SO WRONG! First of all did Digimon not rip off Pokemon because the stories are entirely different, with the only tie that there are some sort of ‘monsters’, but that’s about it. Nobody catches or collects anything. It’s not about being the best and just on an emotional and educational level Digimon is so much better. Sure, Pokemon is very light hearted and funny but Digimon dealed with so many good emotional themes! Izzy came to realise he’s adopted, there is that whole “caring for your little siblings even though they annoy you” and Mimi and Joey had such a growth as characters through the series! The first couple of seasons were just so goood and tied with Monster Ranchers (or was it Rangers?) (which is also amazing!) It has one of my favourite anime openings ever! The first season of Digimon has such a nice German opening! The US one is so damn bad. If you speak some German do yourself a favour and watch those two openings. Ah.
Digimon Frontier wasn’t my cup of tea but the opening was GREAT and I actually thoroughly enjoyed Savers/Data Squad.
