In reblogging this, I’d like to point out that in the Port Arthur massacre, which happened in 1996, 35 people died and 23 were wounded. Given all the horrible shit that’s happened to, for instance, black Americans and native populations worldwide that mysteriously never get counted when people are determining the Greatest Murder Crimes, it was never really THE biggest gun massacre, as claimed here, though it was certainly ONE of the biggest in the modern era.
The Las Vegas massacre, which as of this writing happened exactly two weeks ago on 1 October 2017, saw 58 deaths and 546 injuries when the perpetrator opened fire on a crowd from high up in a hotel room - which is to say, from a vantage point so distant and protected that no armed bystander could possibly have returned fire even if they’d correctly identified his location. And people are STILL making these exact same fucking arguments.
