Yeah, I know - everyone has put this in their blog this morning - but this will give you a good idea of what happens when you mix California geography with too much water. The little bits dissolve and the bigger chunks slide down the hills. They may call this a concrete paradise, but I'm here to warn you - not all that much is that solid, y'know?

I'm hearing about the mudslides this morning - the sun is out now, and looks to stay out most of the rest of the week. There's an icy wind blowing, though - it's clear, and blindingly bright out. *blink blink* Like the sun currently in my eyes.

Peter Gabriel and Cowboy Bebop soundtracks make the drive just all that and a side of fries. 300 watts, nine speakers and all the Good I can handle. *buzzes*

Hee.

Someone needs to photoshop a "Beware of Falling Rocks" sign in the foreground of that photo.

Yeah! That's the California I remember! God damn it all, I'm homesick now!

You remember the old saw about "that drunken Indian Falling Rock" - and his wife, "Running Deer?"

The signs are still everywhere - in this case, I think the rock is sitting on one of them. ^_^;

I love seeing the earth move. Guess it's the geologist in me. I don't get that much at all out here, but when it happens there won't be much left.

I dunno... seeing the usually dry river channel outside my window MOVING with water is pretty spectacular too. *g*

earthquake, fire, flood, landslide - but sometimes they overlap...and, instead of Indian Summer, we get 'riot season'...

Ummm... What's with the skid marks leading to, or from, the rock?

*looks* Hmmmm. Knowing Topanga Canyon, those are the power/phone lines the rock landed on.

Veddy dangerous. You go first, Indy.

This is why every guy in my family looked at the recent landscaping projects going on around L.A. and just scoffed in anticipation of the coming landslides. I may not wish ill will on people, but if they're going to build on sand on the edge of a cliff.. they've got it coming to them. *shrugs*

*nods* Around here, you know some of the house go for figures in the millions...then somebody will point out a very nice place and tell you it's only worth a couple thousand. Why? Geology. One day, it's going surfin' USA, right down the hillside and there ain't nothing anyone can do about it.

They can't get homeowners insurance - and can't sell it. Nice view - for however long it lasts....
