[livejournal.com profile] wolfmoon98 (Mike Smith)was killed in Iraq yesterday when his hummer was hit by mortars.

Didn't have him on my friends list. Didn't know anything about him until today.

And I'm pissed as hell that I had to find out about him this way.

It just doesn't make any sense.

You're obviously just another anti-American hippie.

Hippie, I'll cop to - I'm from that generation.

It's the anti-Americans I'm having issue with - *laughs*

To question our government's actions is a very American thing to do. Hell, we started this great country by questioning our government.

It is an interesting point to remember that all those people who were against the Vietnam War in the 60s and 70s were also considered anti-American.

If so, then I guess we all stand in good company.

I am so tired of this damn war. What have we to show for our efforts to this point? An even better question, when an how will we be able to pull out of this mess?

As for the 'justification' for going, I don't think we'll find any WMDs for sure now. (See story)

The sense isn't all that sensible. The arguements for and about Iraq are both valid, but the death of a military member is never easy. They are someone's son, brother, cousin, uncle, or husband, and losing any of those is hard, now factor in the complexity of a military campaign and it's even more senseless. We don't wage wars on our soil, not unless we absolutely have to, so the passing of our soldiers will almost always be on foreign soil. One thing is certain, each of those deaths is a sacrifice to further OUR way of life and hopefully better the lives in that foreign nation in which they died. With each death we grow more disheartened because the goal seems less and less worth it in the end, but to not see the task through to completion means that all of those soldiers died for nothing. I'll mourn the loss of life but I'll be greatful for his contribution.

Love & Hugs,
FahKingNut

Wow..to realize we are seeing his last words to the world at large. Just sad, so very sad. It almost shows a new purpose to blogging. His family can now have this journal and his words and thoughts to look at and know he cared.
