Matthew Shepard, whose 1998 murder became a symbol for the gay rights movement, will be interred at Washington National Cathedral:

Matthew Shepard and I were the same age – within 6 months of each other – so when he was murdered I was devastated and very much frightened.

I am very glad that his remains will be laid to rest someplace that feels worthy, a place of honor.
