I got some bad news last night - but it wasn't unexpected.

The husband of an old friend of mine has been given a finite framework to settle his affairs - six months, a year. There are just too many things wrong that can't be repaired anymore.

I've known them since I was fifteen years old. They've known each other since they were in fifth grade.

It's normal. Natural - completely expected.

I'm glad I know - but I think most of today, I'm going to be looking up as many email addresses as I can of folks who have been in Marian Kelly's house over the years for fannish things and letting them know too.

Jack made it possible for Marian to do so much for me, and everyone else. And he has been nothing but kind to me - always.

It's going to be as good a death as can be made for him - Marian's a retired nurse, and cared for her father at home until he passed last year in his upper nineties. I can help her - and I'll do what I can.

Just - another end of an era. I'm being entirely selfish here. I know I can't have them forever, but that's just what I want. Y'know?

And that will be just another thing going on in the background for the balance of this year.

Mom turns 80 this Thursday. I'll go out on Sunday for something - who knows what, I don't. She's fine - perky, in fact.

And we're fine. Really really.

One of the people who may have been there is Parris McBride, George R. R. Martin's lifepartner. Let me know if so, please, because she's one of my dearest friends. I'll put you two in touch. Also, Parris knows huge numbers of people in fandom and may be able to help you get the word out. She's nice like that.

I know Marian Kelly's name through fandom and I'm deeply saddened by this:( I wish them both peace and comfort during this time of need.

Sorry to hear it. Glad he'll have support and all of that, but I find the concept of dying to be much scarier than death. I just can't imagine the waiting thing. :(
