We still object to the ticketing policy.

"How do you get a ticket?
There are two ways to obtain tickets to the events named above:

1. Line-up in Hall E at 1pm for tickets on the day of the event, based on availability.
2. Reserve a hotel room under any of the three hotels in the Anime Expo room block by May 31, 2005 and get one ticket per registered guest to one event of your choice (up to a maximum of 4 tickets per room), based on availability."

Uh, nope. Better than last year, but still no dice.

The only policy that is acceptable, by theory? The first one. Reasonable? Oh, hell no.

A legitimate policy would take that very, very good registration program they use, and allow it to issue tickets at the time of registration - and allow the registree to choose one event at that time.

Then open it up at 1:00 PM on the day of the event for leftovers if you want to do more than one.

Fill it up at registration? Suspend the event - it's sold out, too bad so sad. Make other arrangements.

But tickets for hotel stays? No. Not when I will never use a hotel room for AX again.

See ya next year!

We're not going either. We were dismayed with the policy for getting tickets to the Maaya Sakamoto concert, and it's only an HOUR? I'll go to the Hollywood Bowl instead, methinks. Oh well- my parents are in town that weekend anyway, and they're not so into anime, so it works out.

What happened in the AX hotel bit? We were considering that, but the way you mention it sort of scares me. I hope you'll share.

I live less than twenty minutes drive away from the hotel site - while they've done a better of job of negotiating hotel rates this year, it's still over $400 for the weekend if you wish to stay there. And eat the hotel food, and pay the hotel parking...you get my drift.

There is no way I'd pay for a hotel when home is so close -

WE're getting a better rate through AAA

Than if we'd ordered our room through the con. There are still rooms available at the various hotels - if you don't order through AX to get them. I think we're staying at the Hilton on Fri and Sat nights. Yeah, we'll be doing the line thing for AMV, and we'll be having a babysitter for BoyZilla during that time.

I agree with Kyburg about the suckiness in ticket-getting.

I do like your suggestion for a ticketing policy, buuut, I honestly don't think staff of AX is organized enough to pull something like that off, unless they have drastically overhaulded stafff in since 2002.

And well, they gotta sell those hotel rooms somehow. >_> (not saying I condone it)

It looks like the staff overhauled itself again this year - Jennifer Au isn't the chair any longer, matter of fact, the current chair has an LJ - [livejournal.com profile] axchair - go take a look.

They don't need any help selling those rooms - they're gone eight months before the con. I swear it.

It doesn't matter who the con chair is at any given time, and they're often very nice. The simple fact is that Jennifer Pon (Infallible SPJA Chair) runs the show at all times and everyone (con chair included) knows this. That said, JenPon specifically chooses Vaders (or occasionally a Tarkin) as con chair who will carry out her every whim.

And the ticketing policy definitely ignores the locals with a callous indifference. Plus... a ONE HOUR Maaya Sakamoto concert? In the AFTERNOON? WTF.
